| Jeff:
Homebrew is software made by hobbyists for systems without having a licence from the hardware creator. They can either be totally original games (like Super Bat Puncher), hacks which are alterations of old games, or just a software program (like a media player for the wii). The new dreamcast games would be considered homebrew, I believe. Most of these kinds of games don't get mass produced because they can just be played on an emulator or a flashcart. |

To name few good ones: SNES - Legend of Zelda: Parallel Worlds Redone 1.1 (or non-redone version = original, if you prefer hellish difficulty). - Super Mario World: Return to Dinosaur Island. - Super Mario World 2+1 (I call it Yoshi's Island 2) - Super Mario World 2+2 (I call it Yoshi's Island 3) - Super Metroid redesing NES Too many good Zelda, Zelda 2, Super Mario Bros, Super Mario Bros 3, Castlevania and Mega Man 1-4 (5&6?) hacks to list. |
