Original XBox Disc Tray Won't Open

I read about the belt replacement. I didn't mention it because I wanted to see if others mentioned it. If this is a potential fix, I'm definitely up for it. I enjoy small fixes like that, but I want to at least feel confident that it will fix the problem before I try it.

I don't think there's a cheap permanent solution. Both of mine won't open, so I use a paper clip in the manual release to open it. No problems so far. Of course it's soft modded, so I hardly open it anyway.

By "belt" do you mean the little rubber band? I remember reading about this a while ago and I took 2 Xboxes apart and cleaned the little rubber band with soap and water. This fixed it for a very short time so replacing with a new one may work better.

A new un stretch rubber band will do wonders on those stuck trays on original xbox and they can be purchase pretty cheap on ebay.
