Is it posable to only move some apps from a Wii to a Wii U?  I want to keep all my stuff on my original wii, but move my NES VC games to the Wii U so I can upgrade them to the Wii U menu.

what i ended up doing is hacking my week and then doing a full backup of it.

Then i did the transfer to the Wii U

then i restored my backup to the Wii.

i was in the same boat as you and that was the best solution i could think of

That's actually what I did also, I created a full backup of the wii, transfered everything over to the wii u then restored the wii with the backup.

I want to say that you can chose, but I don't think it was really an option...I know that it warned me that some things couldn't be transfered but I don't remember being able to pick and choose what did.

After the transfer it completely wiped the wii clean :/

I have the Homebrew channel. How would I back it up?

I can't remember exactly, and can't look it up due to being at work, but it involves going into the bootmii menu and creating a nand backup onto the sd card.  This will backup your entire wii hd.  Do the wii-wii u transfer steps.  Once that is done you'd go back to the bootmii menu on the wii and do a nand restore.

Bootmii however isn't accessed through the homebrew channel.  Do you know if you have it on the sd card in your wii?

I'm fairly sure BootMii is assessable, that how I got it on there, i think, it was years ago.

Wouldn't the transfer remove the Homebrew Channel?

Bootmii is accessed during the wiis boot sequence.   It'll load before the system menu does.

And yes, the homebrew channel will be deleted off the wiis memory but once you restore the nand from a backup it'll be like nothing happened.

Once I get home I'll try to find the guides I used.

I was able to access bootmii from the channel and also from the system menu load.
To be this good it takes AGES!

There's the Wii U Transfer Channel, which transfers over content using an SD card. But, as I don't own a Wii U, I have no idea what sort of compatibility that has.

This is the only way to do it. You need Bootmii and to backup your NAND before the transfer, then restore the NAND backup on the original regular Wii after the transfer.

I'm going to have to grab a spare SD card and give this a shot. Because it sure would be nice to have my Wii data on my Wii U without having to wipe my Wii.
My cover requests:

Jade Cocoon (PS1)
Shovel Knight (3ds/WiiU)

Keep in  mind though that after you do the transfer and restore, you should not access the wii eshop.  Doing so can cause errors and problems with vc games.  Once transfered, only access the eshop through the wii u and the virtual wii.
