I hooked up my PS1 just now because I was going to play with a nephew, the ps starts but suddenly it takes me to the memory car or cd player screen, when I check the cd wasn't spinning,  each and every time I checked the cd didn't spin.

What can be the problem?

Might be a broken disc drive. Try to put it on its side, that was a common issue with the original PS1.

The CD menu is the default for no disc.  As previously mentioned, try another disc.  If you dont have one, try a CD.  If the CD plays they then spinner and laser are functioning, but may be dirty or loose.  It could also just be the disc itself.

Are you trying this on a Playstation (fat gray brick) or a PS1 (small white slim version)?

If it's an original phat ps1, try turning it upside down after you boot up.  Seriously, lots of friends had to do that to get anything to boot on theirs.  It definitely means your drive is screwed, but it will stay alive for quite a while like this if it works.

It's also possible that the lid is not securing, or the button isn't being pressed inside.  When the lid closes it presses a button.  If not pressed, the disc won't spin

Which version is it?  Does it have the RCA video and audio outputs on the back?  If so, those models were more prone to having bad disc drives.  I have the original US model since new and so far I've been lucky with zero issues.
Maybe, just once, someone will call me "sir" without adding, "you're making a scene."

Mine looks like the upper one

I'm surprised you are having problems.  That's the "newest" one, not counting the PSOne models.

As Sony made revisions, they began removing items from the back.

You might just have to buy a new one or start using a PS2.

Fortunately, working PS1's don't cost much.  You should have no problem finding a working unit for under $15 (with all cables and standard controller).  The fact that the PS2 was 99% backwords compatible (including controllers and memory cards) makes the PS1 very cheap and affordable.

If you have power and keep getting the disc reading, but no cd or disc will work, try this:
NOTE:  TRY AT YOUR OWN RISK

Laser Cleaning - this video is a quick how to which can help.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6CzVLMSznu8

This video is about REPLACING he spindle, which I have not done, but I HAVE removed my spindle and put it back on.  It has worked.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RSxo4zggWoM

Finally, as a last ditch effort:
If that doesn't help, something I have done in the past is this:
The PSX has typical phillips head screws, so you can easily open it up.  Remove the screws and gently remove the top.  Once open, ensure nothing has come loose.  If something is out of place, there's your answer.  But it also may be your spinner is just a little off.  When looking at the exposed spinner, try to jiggle things to make sure they are tight and in place.  I'm no engineer so it's hard to explain, but basically you disassemble some of it then just reassemble it.  I'll see if I can find a video...OR if you don't feel like doing all of this, PSX is like $20 these days.
