There's an interesting question - in what practical sense are old-style expansion packs different than modern DLC?

I think the difference is one of scale. Something that doubles the size of the game, with many unique (IE, not-reused from the base game) elements, well, it's harder to argue that Brood War 'should have been part of the game'. Something that adds 3 costumes though...

Although for all I know, the original plan for Starcraft was to release it as a 2-disc game, then they split it up to make more money. So it's a question of... intent? Is that what makes the difference, not amount of content?

For me personally, it's the piecemeal nature of it that bothers me. Getting 5 DLC packs for 2 dollars apiece feels a lot more rip-off-ish than getting a single huge one for 10 dollars.

Remember the old dlc discs for oblivion and Falout 3? Those were always a good deal and I still have them all. I could always redownload my dlc's. Now if I get a new xbox because one dies microshaft gives me hell about liscencing. Ahhh the good old days. :(
