For old games:
- Online forums
- Local retro store
- Ebay

For new games:
- Amazon
- Ebay
- Brick and Mortar only if they have a good deal.

I look for old games at pawn shops, but I haven't found a worthwhile game from one since at least 6 years ago.

Where on forums does one go to get games?

Nintendoage has a VERY active for sale/trade section.  Mostly Nintendo-related stuff (shocker), but there is no shortage of other items too. There's one thread up right now with a TON of sweet TG-16 stuff.

It moves fast though. You gotta stay on top of it if you wanna get the good stuff.

Do I smell a TCP outing coming this summer in C-bus? :)

That would rock!

but is it better than Ebay prices? If it was, why wouldn't people just sell on ebay?

Yes, because selling on eBay sucks donkey balls and everyone on that forum knows it.  Even if you sell for less on the forum, you make more by way of avoiding eBay fees and the hell that is customer service on eBay.  So the prices on NA tend to be very fair.

I have to say yes and no to this. I made some really sweet deals on NA but also a lot of times people use the retarded VGPC.com as a price indicator. *ugh* Really good and rare stuff is priced on ebay levels often as well. But yes you can have good deals there sometimes.

Yeah, it's like anywhere.  I wasn't trying to say that it's brimming with amazing deals, but rather that it's a solid place to buy if you can keep up with it.  Plus people tend to be VERY willing to make deals when you buy in volume ;)

Ebay fees are about 18% for sellers.

I live in rural Saskatchewan so I typically buy most of my retro games through ebay.  It wasn't so bad two years ago when the Canadian dollar was worth more than the American dollar but the Loonie has gradually slid down and is now sitting at about 80cents US.  So anything now I buy on ebay is usually 20% more for me to buy because of the exchange rate.  I seems even more Canadian sellers are posting their ads in American dollars now.  I'm going to have to find other means of purchasing games for the next while.  I have lucked out a few times in the last couple months at Value Village in Saskatoon and got a mint Resident Evil 2 for PS1 for $3.99 a couple weeks ago.  It was sitting in the CD's section and not the game section so that's probably the only reason it was still there.  I've gotten some good deals on Kijiji locally as well so diversification may be the way to go.  I got a WiiU for Christmas so maybe I'll stick with new games for a while instead.

Don't forget about this website.  I've made some pretty good deals here and I've sold some stuff without the hassles of ebay. ;D
Maybe, just once, someone will call me "sir" without adding, "you're making a scene."

Exchange rates are killing ebay deals big time (for canadians). I'm quite happy I did most of my my ebay shopping at the time it was 30% more favorable than today.
Add the Global shipping program on top of that and you end up bleeding another ridiculous fee.

I'm looking more at local adds (kijiji), but it's very rare to find deals in my region. Most of the time, people are trying to cash-in and set the price higher than what you can find on ebay... even twice the price! And of course, everything is brand new, only opened once, missing manual, firm price, sell as a lot only ;)
