I have a friend who is obsessed with storing his Playstation games in a binder. He has outgrown one of the binders and just got a new, big binder. I'm not his father so I can't tell him not to store games that way. But I just find it odd how he thinks he is going to impress me when he knows about this project.  ::)

My thoughts on storing games in a binder is you're not getting the same experience. He just puts his cases and artwork in his closet and talks about how it's cool to flip the pages fast and show off his games that way. Sure, you can create more space that way, however his closet is a jungle, which is where he puts everything.

I think one time he said that having his dvds displayed by his tv drove him crazy, he called it clutter. I'm wondering if looking at the games makes him go crazy. I don't know, I just don't see how someone can be motivated to collect like that. Everyone's different but it's hard for me to appreciate a game binder. If you bring it somewhere and accidentally lose it, there goes your life long collection.

Also, he said that he's not a box person, he's a ''disc'' person, and he called me a box person. How would you feel if you saw his binder? He has collected hundreds of PS2 games over the last year. Most were about 1 to 2 dollars or less at certain Gamestops that still have some left. He said he might post his binder on here or a game forum and blow people away with what he calls all the ''best'' PS2 games of all time. Most are racing, sports, action, and skate boarding games, with some hack n slash's like Gengi, GOW and Nano Breaker. He says he plays them all the time, but I don't think he's beat any games in the last year.

I don't know, I just had to write about this. It just drives me crazy when he text messages me about his binder, especially when he knows I use this site. I don't really understand him, but he says that the binder just makes him excited. Then other times he said that it helps him count his games or help him to not get obsessed with games. I guess I'm just trying to figure out why he is so excited about putting PS2 games in a binder. Sure, some games don't come with the OG case, so I get that, but not every game is without it's case.

My original PlayStation games were stored in a binder too. It was something I did years ago to save space. But then my binder went missing, along with over 250 PS1 games.

Now I just keep them in jewel cases.

Well that's unfortunate. 250 PS1 games wow, I wonder how much that was worth.

Was there any benefit other than saving space? Did you get a kick of trying to fill up the binder and flip through it like cards?

A lot. Many were fairly common games, but I had some rarer RPG's like the "Tales of.." games, Suikoden, Jumping Flash 2, and many more. At least I kept my inserts and manuals separate, so I still have those and I can buy games as disc only to replace them.

Organization was pretty easy, I grouped games by genre and series. Now I just go alphabetical.

I would never be able to do that with game discs...but music discs I definitely used a hard case binder.

Has he seen what a high quality neatly organized collection looks like? As for counts nothing beats using Excel/any other spreadsheet program. A few clicks and I can tell a person exactly how many I have of what.

unless he kept all the inserts stored safely and didn't have he space to show it off I would not be impressed. If I was talking to a guy and he said "oh yeah, I collect games too!" then whips out a binder with no saved art, I would have to suppress my urge to call him a pleb and to get on my level. Unless he is under the age of 15, then I would try giving advice. Also if some parents see a huge collection they might want to get rid of it for some reason or another.

In my opinion the only thing worse would be writing your name on the disks with sharpie.

There was a time when I kept my PS1 in a binder to save on space.  Thank God I didn't throw my cases out.
Maybe, just once, someone will call me "sir" without adding, "you're making a scene."

Boxart is more appealing than what they print on discs. And box spines are more interesting than a random binder. I don't mind if someone uses a binder, but I get upset if someone is using one of those spindle things.

It could be worse.  They could always keep them in one of those cases that the old 50 pack of CD-R's came in.
