A whole new 72-pin fix
Lashek:
I plan to back this, but the 72 pin connectors in the NES are easily salvageable and fixable assuming the pins aren't corroded or broken.
I take a paperclip and use it realign all the pins, and I use an old invalid credit card wrapped with a coffee filter soaked in rubbing alcohol to clean the pins.
Never had to replace one yet (I have 3 NES and 1 Toploader).
TDIRunner:
I've officially backed this as well.

I've been able to salvage all but 2. The plastic was to brittle that it would just crumble and let the pins flop around so in other words they became junk. It would be nice to just slide my game in and power it on.

Gettin' that fusho.

When mine broke. It was the plastic part. It became very brittle, and could be crushed to dust with very little effort. New replacement I got off amazon has been working great.
