What are your thoughts on the recent trend of remaster games that have been released or going to be released in future like resident evil, the last of us remaster, Final Fantasy Type-0 and dark souls 2 remaster for ps3, ps4 and Xbox one? Do you think worth they are worth purchasing a second time?

I guess it just depends.  I've bought remastered versions of a few games and so far I've been happy.  I hope they don't flood the market with too many.  However, if they pick just the right games, I think it's a great idea.  If one isn't interested in buying the game a second time just for better graphics (and usually a few other improvements), then they don't have to buy it.

I have remastered versions of the following games:
  Tomb Raider Legend
  Tomb Raider Anniversary
  Metal Gear Solid 2
  Metal Gear Solid 3
  Metal Gear Peace Walker
  Medal of Honor Frontline

I didn't mind buying those games a second time because they were all so well made games.  They didn't make any significant changes to the games.  They only enhanced the graphics which helps to make the game more enjoyable to me.

I also have the Twin Snakes for the GameCube.  This one for me was just meh.  The new voice acting was rushed and forced and the control scheme on the GameCube controller just didn't work.  I would love to see them remaster MGS on the PS3 or PS4 with the Fox Engine graphics with a proper Sony controller.
Maybe, just once, someone will call me "sir" without adding, "you're making a scene."

I like that Resident Evil is gonna be cheap (I think I saw $20) and the collections like Halo are cool too. I just hate the last gen upgrades like GTA V and Last of Us, there's no need for a rerelease on those already unless it's in a collection or cheap, not at full price again.

I like remasters of older titles but not this new trend of the PS3 to PS4 remasters. It seems too ridiculous to me because there was nothing wrong with the old version.

Only one I've picked up so far is DuckTales.  It's certainly possible for them to be nice, but yeah... 7th gen titles "remastered" for 8th gen seems like a pretty blatant cash grab.  Unless you're going from handheld to console, I totally approve of that.  There's just not that big of a difference between the generations to really rate it.

It is too bad that the remaster releases from the last generation the ps3 and xbox 360 like Tomb Raider Definitive Edition or the last of us remastered aren't given a more budget release price point like $30-$40.

I paid $10 new for the remastered Tomb Raider games combined with TR Underworld.  I thought that was a great deal.

Seems like a cash-in to me.  Must he hard producing games right at the point when console generations are passing. You'd obviously wanna target as many customers as possible, and the "remaster" thing does seem like a fair enough way to do so in some instances.

The only remaster at the moment to me that doesn't seem like a cash in is Final Fantasy Type-0.

I've just finished playing through the sleeping dogs remaster on ps4.  Whilst playing it, I was thinking it wasn't any better than the PS3 version.  However, when I was done with it, I went back to the PS3 version to mop up a few trophies I hadn't got around to, and I have to say, comparing side by side, the ps4 version was MUCH better.  Predominantly graphics, but the whole feel of it had been improved too.

I wouldn't normally buy a hd remake from one gen to the next, but my PS3 sleeping dogs was digital from ps+, and I always knew I would get physical copy at some point.

There are some games that I hope do get remastered - for instance I would love the skate trilogy.  I just hope they don't start remaking the remakes! Lol

I think you two are refering to different games. Mel is talking about the Tomb Raider Remastered on PS4 and XB1 and TDIRunner is talking about the Tomb Raider Trilogy on PS3.

Yes, I was talking about the Tomb Raider Definitive Edition which was at first released at $60 when it was released on ps4/xbox one earlier this year. Please correct my if I am wrong about the release price.

That's a great deal for the PS3 Tomb Raider trilogy because it was $40 when the game was first released and the cheapest I ever saw it brand new was for around $20 USD.

I got you.

I didn't realize that they remastered the Tomb Raider reboot since it's only a few years old.  But I guess that is the point Mel was trying to make. It seems a little ridiculous to be remastering games every few years.

I think the price point they have for these remastered release are too high because when they are releasing these remastered for the  PS4/Xbox one the PS3 version is already around $20 new. Also,  the HD collection that were released on the PS3 in North american had a MRSP of $40 but, they contain around 2 sometimes 3 games on the collection which makes the price point fairly reasonable. It seem like most of the remastered games currently being released on PS4/Xbox one are quite recent games which were released within the last year or two. It would be interesting if to see if they will remastered some older games like Final Fantasy XII or even some PSP games like Dissidia Final Fantasy.
