I just bought some UGC's, and when I went to put a cover in one, I noticed that it was noticeably thicker than the other UGC's I have.  I didn't know they came in different sizes.  Needless to say, my covers don't fit properly.  I guess next time I'll have to be more careful when buying them.  Anyone know what these extra thick cases are designed for?

Huh. They appear to be from the initial run of UGCs (back when they made black ones). If so they would be roughly 7+ years old.

Can you take a picture of the inside of the case?

I found an unusual UGC a while back.  The plastic was much thicker and it felt a lot stronger, but the outer dimensions were still the same as the current UGC.  Also there was no sleeve, and there were no signs that it had ever had a sleeve (no markings from the original seam).  I was able to add a sleeve using Wiggy's method and added it to my UGC collection.
Maybe, just once, someone will call me "sir" without adding, "you're making a scene."

I also have some old cases that are like UGCs in the overall construction, except they are sized perfectly for NES games.  Therefore, they are about the same width, but they are shorter.  They have no clips on the inside, but they still hold NES cases very well because the overall dimensions are about the size of an NES cart.  These also do not have any sleeves and they appear as though they never did.  If I remember correctly, my old video game rental store used to keep their NES games in these and I think I aquired these when they sold off some of their old stock.

I know mediashelving used to have the option to purchase the cases with and without the sleeve. Perhaps it was one of those

I had about a hundred of these a while back (and were slightly thicker, like the OP has). Had to sleeve em all by hand. Got em from another user here. You can actually still get them last I checked. I used them to package RCG Gameboys and such really early on. The little extra thickness was just enough to squeeze the systems in without mashing the buttons and whatnot :)

I bought them on Ebay.  I didn't need very many, so I bought a lot of 18 for $20.  The inside of the case is nearly identical to a standard UGC.  It won't hold an NES cartridge as-is.  They are also slightly shorter, which is why the top and bottom of the cover extend beyond the sleeve.

Yep, looks like the original run of them. Appears to be the same as the black ones that i have
