My nephew's 3DS charge port essentially broke apart.  Now it won't charge.  He had some big protective case around it and always used just the cable.  The charge cradle won't work either.  It looks like Nintendo wants $85 plus tax and shipping to fix it.  This gives a one year warranty.  Used/refurbished ones aren't terribly cheap either.  Will a bigger battery (NYKO or some other company) fix it or will he have to spend the money on fixing or buying a different system?

You might want to look into this
http://www.miniinthebox.com/induction-charging-stand-with-rechargeable-battery-for-3ds-1800-mah-black_p299068.html

It's a replacement battery for the 3DS, and it supports wireless charging with the included base. If the port is literally broken, something like this is probably your only 'non-repair' option, and it looks to be cheaper than what you were looking at.

I haven't used it, so I can't vouch for it, but it looks like a perfect solution to your problem.

Thanks!  I'll check that product out.  Maybe that'll work.
