How do I play Japanese Games on Sega Saturn?

Sega Saturn: Action Replay 4M Plus. This will let you play all Japanese games except KOF'95 and the Ultraman fighting game.

Sega Genesis: Game Genie. I've heard it's not perfect, but it hasn't failed me thus far.

PS1: Cheat discs seem to do it. Apparently early Gameshark discs allowed region by-pass as a mistake on their part. I had a GamePro cheat disc that allowed me to play Japanese games, again as a mistake on their part.

For the Genesis, I actually have a region switch cart that lets you play all regions of games. So far it has played every game I put on it.

I have both a US and JP Saturn. Mainly got the JP Saturn just because I want to eventually get KOF95 and the Ultraman fighter. (Even though I heard the Ultraman fighter is terrible.) Got a model 2 JP Saturn (the grey one) because it has better compatibility.. for example, Kyuutenkai Fantastic Pinball wouldn't run on my Model 2 US Saturn, and I thought this had something to do with the region bypass not working but it could have been due to incompatibility with Model 2 Saturns. Quite a few games are known to be incompatible with Model 2s regardless of region.

Even with my JP Saturn, I still use the AR4M+ cart because I still have a lot of US games.

Also one more question. How about for the PS1 and Genesis?

you need to offer up sport titles as a sacrifice and if your lucky the gods will unlock your system for you.

but all joking aside 2 ways you can do it with the Saturn Mod chip or Action Replay and some tape *this is for the swap trick*

PS1 depends on the model the PSX older system that has the I/O port in the back hunt down a old school game shark or somthing like it that plugs in the back and a spring.

Newer PSOnes mod chip or swap trick with some tape and paper

Genesis. Stone age gamer has the Ever Drive or you can find one of those 80 in One it has some good games but made cheap

Lol, well I like my sports titles too. Does the Saturn mod chip work with every Japanese game or just most?
Also, is just getting a Japanese Saturn a good option?

Mod chip does NOT let you play imports, only backups. The region mod is completely different. But there's a really simple patch program out their which will patch any JP game to US so you can burn it and play it on a modded US console.

Einhander:

So patch is the answer? What is the solution to have complete backwards compatibility?
