Ok, here is mine:

I based the design off of the model 1 system and controllers. I made it fairly easy to convert retail covers to this template, keeping a inverted grid.

EDIT:
Wait, reading the rules again:
Quote
Designs must be original! Designs can not recycle the grid or elements from the Master System or any other console ...

Does this conflict? I did redraw everything, minus the SEGA logo, the MS logo on the spine, and the legal text on the back. And the grid is very subtle and inverted. I was going for a retail style template.

@Larryinc64
Everything you did was original, except the grid. I really want original covers without influence from previous work done by Sega. SegaMilestones had come up with the idea of the Mega Drive bubbles:

But it couldn't be used in the contest. We have a lot of geniuses like yourself; if patterns/designs are going to be used, I want to see what you guys come up with as it can ultimately define the winner! Almost every system had some theme or pattern that defined the system. Here's some examples:

I don't really want to talk about designs until the end but I think you already have a well crafted and clearly defined cover without the grid.

Ok, Triangles.
I feel its too bare without some sort of pattern, and I'm guessing squares are too close to the grid

Also, you used the GBA bar from my template in the preview.  ;D

You know what's funny? I actually thought about putting the power on triangle button on my cover as you did Larry, had it all done and drawn up, then when I was all done decided to nerf it lol.

For a usable cover I had an idea like larryinc64 did as well, but instead of the red and black master system 1, I was thinking of a white and black template to mirror the Sega Mark 3, I don't know if larry might want to bang up one based on that since he did such a great job on that cover, I just haven't found time with my new job lately. But good job larry!

Looking good!!!
I can't wait to see how this develops. They would go perfect with Shodowfox's new Genesis cases when they come out.

Hi! I'm fairly new here, mostly a lurker, but I saw this and thought I might try.

Here's the template:

I stuck with the colors of the console.
That Red line around the cover is based on the SEGA logo, but mostly the "S".
Also, the slogan is from this SMS poster: http://i.imgur.com/la7FoYC.jpg

Here it is in action:

I made the Zillion logo based on the title screen in-game.
The image of JJ on the front and the Zillion Gun on the back are directly from screenshots of the game

For reference, here is my scan of the original Zillion cover:

I hope you like it!

EDIT: Those pictures are way too big... How do I fix that?
EDIT2: Changed the huge images to previews with links to the full size underneath.

I have to say this is my favorite so far

Made a slight addition to the template.

Now allows for the background to be Sega Blue for those who crave uniformity, and for those who like the differentiation Sega originally did for these cases,  Red for Action games, Orange for Sports games, Yellow for arcade games, green for Shooting and teal for Family Games.  Much more of a retro feel with the different colour spines i think - kinda like the 2600.

Far out these look freaking amazing.

I'm not a huge Sega guy myself, infact all my sega games I have are all boxed, and I got them all for free <3

But at the moment, my favourites are Sheeps and SegaMilestone's. They look fantastic. In fact, everyone's does.

Ah, that one wasn't in the original template I got the colors from.  Easily added. 😉

I have a pretty solid idea in mind but no time to have it come to fruition. I'll save the design i have in mind for another time. Submissions thus far have looked pretty solid  :)
