looking for opinion/fact about storing old game boxes

Does anyone know if the color on old game boxes will begin to flake over time if I store them flat? The idea is to just flatten them and store them with their manuals and maps in silver age comic bags and boards and then put them in a long comic box and put em away. I'm just afraid that the color on the  corners/edges will begin to flake if creased.

Aren't the edges already creased?  I wouldn't think it would be a problem as long as they were folded flat in a natural way.  In other words, some boxes want to fold flat in one direction only.  Some Game Gear boxes are that way.  You don't want to force them flat in an un-natural way that would create new creases.

***EDIT***  I store my boxes in clear box protectors, and therefore, I DO NOT store my boxes flat.  So make sure you get opinions from others who actualy do store their boxes flat.

I did consider the clear protector route but need to save space so flattening them seems to be the best option. I was just wondering about the long term damage if any. If I wasn't such a completest it wouldn't be an issue.

If you're only gonna flatten them once and forget about em, then I don't think you'll have too muh trouble. The real problems would arise if you were continually fold and unfold them.  Optimally you'd want to completely disassemble the boxes and store them completely flat, but that's not really possible to do without damaging them in other ways.

Thanks for the advice yall. Im keeping my Hall Of Fame stuff on the shelf in protectors and the rest in the bags n boards. Also selling/trading a bunch of boxes, games and both. Went back and forth for a long time over what to do but finally decided to let go of a huge chunk of nes and snes to fund my modded systems and repros. If there is any interest ill post a final list soon.
