Today started off as a Craigslist day..went to pick up a lot north of my city and ended up checking out some game stores up there...

The craigslist Genesis lot came with a complete Genesis Model 1, and 13 games.  $30 total for everything
NBA Jam
Bi Hurt Baseball
Quarterback Club 96
Road Rash 3
Sonic
Sonc 2
Golden Axe
Altered Beast
Aladdin
Jurassic Park
Mortal Kombat
Mortal Kombat 2
Virtua Racer
and......
Lightening Force - a game I haven't thought about in years and is (alone) worth more than I paid for the whole lot.  Prety happy about that.

Then I went a little further north to Vista, CA and checked out a gamestore that advertises a lot on craigslist and found these:

X-Files - $7
Riven - $5
Battle Arena Toshinden - $5 (i had to buy this because I have never seen a jewel case version of this, it also says "not for resale" so I am guessing it was part of a set)
Defenders of Dynatron City -$3  label is completely shot
Spider-Man 2 - $5
and the WEIRDEST PICKUP I HAVE EVER HAD!

What the hell am I looking at!?  Mel Gibson's Hamlet:  The Game !?
Actually, it's just Ninja Gaiden Shadow.  because...why not?  I thought it might be the Japanese version, but nope, it's the American release.  The lady even gave this one to me for $1 because she couldn't get it working.
So now I have what I think can be called the most unique item in my collection..."Ninja Hamlet:  The Revenge of Claudius"

and finally, although not technically game related..

If you were a kid in the 90s n the US (and maybe elsewhere) this stuff is gamer's gold!  Nothing but liquid sugar and caffine,  They discontinued this about 15 years ago, but brought it back for a limited run on Amazon.   Time to break out Ocarina of Time, FF VII and Diablo.  Tonight we're gonna party like it's 1999!

Finally just sucked it up and bought physical copies.  Freebie DL codes were great for playing, but just didn't feel like part of the collection :/

Feel the same way. I'm not interested in buying any of the modern system bundles because the included games are digital. They might as well come without a game if they don't come with a physical copy. Zero incentive to buy a bundle that includes digital content...

You could always do what some people do, buy the bundle, sell the code and use the money to buy the game.  Espeically if you have a game membership somewhere like Best Buy that gets you 20% off new games.
Not ideal, I know, but it is a way around the system, and how to get the slick exclusive hardware (Like the Link Between Worlds 3ds) without being stuck with a digital game.
As for bundles without exclusive hardware (like the Assassin's Creed Xbox One set), they can piss off.

Yes, I guess there are always ways around this. I'm just frustrated with the direction games are going in general. Nowadays they release a digital code for a game that takes up 60gb of the included 500gb of space (and it's never really 500 seems like; the usable space is always less). Sure the fan boys argue that you can attach an external hard drive for more space, but I have a hard time justifying the expense as it is when I read the complaints current owners have with the new consoles: http://www.xboxachievements.com/forum/showthread.php?p=6467427#post6467427

I've followed this complaints thread with interest for the last year waiting for them to get their act together with the Xbox One. It's a big clusterfuck, still.

Party chat doesn't work properly, the X1 dashboard interface is more difficult to navigate than the 360, and games crash and don't play properly on release until they do a mass of updates (which apparently can take days to download, regardless of your internet speed because MS servers are overloaded). Microsoft supposedly did away with the always online thing, but God forbid you purchase a modern system and don't have internet to update the thing. The games/system are not polished, good working products out of the box. The only incentive I have for getting an Xbox One is the Master Chief Collection and that doesn't work right out of the box either. The game crashes during campaign, the game menu progress meter for campaign doesn't accurately track progress, and I read that they can't even play matchmaking right now because it doesn't work at all. Apparently there are some updates coming to fix all of this... I guess they don't test these products before they come out now in the digital age since they can make patches for everything.

Regarding the slow download speeds for Xbox One, apparently it's because, in spite of the system selling more poorly than Microsoft had hoped, there are too many people downloading from their servers. What happened to all of that 'power of the cloud' nonsense they were going on about as they tried to usher us head first into the digital age? Their servers aren't even powerful enough to handle basic updates for broken games that were released prematurely. Imagine if the Xbox One had sold better than it has and the servers were more stressed than they already are. What's going to happen on/after Christmas when there are more people downloading updates and patches?

Sony doesn't sound much better after hearing razellionhart's tale of woe. I'll just stick with good old Nintendo these days. The Wii U might not be as cutting edge, but it's good, wholesome fun and, after some of its own updates, offers a quality experience.

I don't mean to rant too much about all of this. It's just a hobby and I do enjoy it, but I get annoyed when the companies don't provide good service and a half baked product. Maybe I miss the old days when things were straightforward and simple. Oh well, I'll just continue to vote with my wallet.

Ooh, here are recent pickups (got the Halo controller for $6.50 :)):

So yesterday at lunch a coworker and I were talking about AV cables and home theater setups.  I was talking about having all my consoles setup on one TV and how everything was “perfect” in my mind except for my GameCube which didn’t have the infamous component cable and how it was impossible to find now.  My coworker comes back with, “oh, I have one of those”.  I was of course skeptical and asked if it was the real Nintendo brand one and he replied back with “yeah, I had to order it straight from Nintendo”.  After telling him I hated it (jokingly of course) I told him he was lucky and that it’s worth a small fortune now.  Today I came in and this was sitting on my desk.

He said I could have it since it was just collecting dust.  I made sure he knew what he was giving up (he said he did look it up on eBay) but he insisted.  I showered him with thanks and told him how I had been looking for one forever to complete my perfect GameCube setup.  This is the first one I have ever seen in person and I still can’t believe it’s mine now!

That's awesome.  Congrats. ;D

And good for you for making sure he knew what he was giving up. :D
Maybe, just once, someone will call me "sir" without adding, "you're making a scene."

Wow, that is so awesome! I'm just now starting to become less "embarrassed" about my collecting so I need to talk to more people about it in hopes of getting cool free stuff.

My newest pickups.

Paid quite a lot for Actraiser 2 and Robotrek (75 for both together). They are in really nice condition though with maps and manual and everything.

On the second picture is a nice hual I had today. Paid 70 for the lot. Finally Duck Tales 2!
2 + 3 = 23

A "nice haul"?  LOL  Snow Bros alone (at least her in the States) is over a $150 game!  Well done, sir.
