So I started messing around with Photoshop.  I'm not sure that I will ever by the type of person to make quality covers that can be hosted on TCP from raw scans.  However, I'm hoping that I can at least take already created covers and convert them into the styles that fit my taste.  I hate bogging others down with lame requests such as changing the Game Boy spine from the black logo to the grey one.  Fortunately, once I started getting familiar with everything, I found that task to be pretty simple and I've already modified all of my Game Boy covers to have the same matching spine.

So now I've moved onto my Genesis covers.  I've found that the Genesis covers seem to have very little uniformity which is probably due to the fact that the original Genesis cases had none whatsoever to begin with.  So I'm working on converting those over to my favorite style, which just happens to be Shenske's red Genesis template.

I'm going to post what I've been working on here.  I TAKE NO CREDIT FOR ANY OF THESE COVERS.  I'm using covers downloaded from this site and I'm using Shenske's template from this site.  All I'm doing is moving stuff around and making minor changes to fit my personal tastes.  I hope I'm not stepping on anyone's toes in which case I'll take them down immediately.  Any feedback is appreciated.

Some of these took less than five minutes since the original was 99% of what I wanted, however, the first two required a little more work.

I made a few like this in the past, I made a Sonic, though it can use a few fixes.
Columns could use some work, th red around the older Genesis logo is sloppy, I would try to remove it, it would be a simple clone tool job.
There is a red retail cover for Dr. Robotnick somewhere, I think I have it.
I was toying with the idea to make a red stripe version of the grid template, I just have been focusing on GB and SNES covers.
I'll post my idea in a second, let me whip us a example.

I also remember making a Black grid template to fit the red spine.
I need sleep now, stayed up late writing a midterm paper.

Thanks for the feedback.  I haven't finalized anything yet and I haven't started printing yet just in case I decide to make changes.  I agree the Genesis logo on Columns is sloppy.  I'm not 100% happy with that one right now.

Also I'll mention that a lot of my Genesis covers are already in the red spine format, but not necessarily the same format that I'm using.  There are several red spine formats with different color and size Genesis logos (some white, some grey) and there are even some red spine formats that aren't in the same shade of red.  It may sound nitpicky, but that's why I'm trying to make these changes myself.  I really want the spines to be uniform when sitting on my shelf, but I hate to request covers for minor changes such as making the Genesis logo white instead of grey.  I would prefer to make my requests for covers that don't exist yet. :D

Don't know if you saw this already but there are quite a few converted covers in this thread http://www.thecoverproject.net/forums/index.php?topic=13072.0
Also, I noticed Mean Bean has the Mega Drive logo on the front artwork instead of Genesis.

That's helpfull.  Thanks. ;D

I'll still need to make minor changes as I'm not including the 4 digit number at the bottom of the spine. (Now I'm being really nitpicky :P)  But if that's the only change that some of them need, it will save me a lot of time.

I'll also mention that the reason I'm doing this now is because I'm in the process of reprinting all of my covers on better quality paper (and a better quality printer than what I was using a year ago). So I figure if I'm reprinting, I want it to be the last time I have to do it which means I want the covers to be exactly what I'm looking for. :D

I am sorta the opposite I like the black grid pattern. Red stripes where always too candy cane looking.

To each their own of course.

You may notice that I don't like having the stripes accross the entire front or back.  There are a few of those floating around and I'm not a big fan of those.  It's just a little too much for me.  But I like the look on the spine.

I like both types myself. I'm going to kinda go the retail route and keep the grid or stripes depending on if that's how it was released originally. Now I need to figure out if I'm going to use  Sega clamshells or UGCs haha.
Snes is Best.
