I'm a little stumped here. I feel retail cover is the truest cover you can do. But there are perks to the custom cover. Don't have to turn your head to read it, plus it says the system on the side. I'm a little confused and don't want to make a mistake. Which cover is the way to go?

There is not a right or wrong, its up to you.  Some system's games I do retail, others custom. Just depends on what I like to see on my shelf.

there is no right or wrong answer here, some like custom, some like retail art. either case, i would reword your title as it leads one to believe that this is about cases, not artwork.

Vertical is the best

Yeah, I'm gonna agree wholeheartedly with this.

Plus, there are a lot more verticals complete than horizontals iirc.

There is no right or wrong answer.

But anything other than vertical is wrong. :P

check out wiggy's n64 covers. they are very nicely done and can save a ton on ink. i also prefer his snes covers but am too far into covering my collection to switch...

I understand how you feel. None of my N64 games have boxes so I'm free to pick either one. I can't help but think retail would make me feel fuzzier when staring at my collection. However, I like the clean look of the verticals. I may just have to flip a coin...

*edit* How I feel

This might help you deside:

As Verticals are more custom and are easier to make from scratch with minimal amount of original stuff, they are more likely to be done when requested.

I did vertical but If I had to do it all over again, I'd use the spine from the vertcial and the front and back from the horizontal.

I am always flattered when these conversations come up. To make someone even consider going away from retail covers in favor of my vertical style is humbling. :)

Ever since I learned the wonders of using GOOD paper, I've found myself re-printing everything.  And now I have to decide all over again.  Which format do I want?  If I want to change, now is the time.........but what do I do?

It's a good problem to have. ;)
