Is it the piece that latches onto the back of the ps1? or a disc version.  I have the dongle/add on version.  But never used a disc based on

Disc version. Not sure how it would work but neither on ebay had the dongle.

Megatron:

If it is disc only, then it most likely operates the same way the gameshark does - it modifies the game, and switches the disc without resetting the console, ensuring the changes.

But if you're looking for something to work on your PS2 75000, I would check the manufacture date.  If it is before your PS2, then it may not work - assuming the details about the updates to the hardware being correct.

I actually bought a PS2 50001 today hoping that would give me some options. And I like the way it looks. Load times seem to be a little slower though. Using component cables with it so it looks great on this plasma tv but getting a 36" Trinitron tomorrow hoping that will satisfy old school consoles low res output. I'm trying to get back into this old stuff so I might as well make sure to do it right.
