PS2 fat vs Slim
kingjohn3:
I have the slim and to me the only reason to go with the fat is, of course, performance differences if any. Such as, did Sony remove any components like Nintendo did with the NES and SNES when they re-released them? And the last question...Is the slim compatible with the Game Shark? There is a store here in town that I can get one for $35 with a 30 day guarantee so I'm kicking the idea around.
SNESkid16:
As someone who recently switched from the fat model to the slim, I would recommend it. Other than the obvious size difference, I noticed no difference in performance. The fan is more quiet than the original fat model, which is really nice. Another plus to the slim is the lack of motor for the front loading of a game, the slim is top loading and much more durable. Overall, I'm glad I made the switch.

Action Replay works ok?

I think it depends on where you plan to use your PS2!
I prefer the phat PS2 just for the ability to use HD Loader via the independence day exploit. Not condoning piracy or anything, but I keep one of my ps2's in my vehicle for gaming on the go. My favorite PS2 games are backed up to it's HDD so that I don't have to worry about damaged discs, etc.
When I'm at home, I prefer the slim, however.
Thom Grayson:
The Slim is way way smaller than the regular PS2, and quieter too. Unless you really need HDD support, there's no reason not to get the Slim.
Word of warning though - the power/tray buttons on the Slim are kind of fiddly, just because they are so small.
