I have seen original Famicoms modded to have NES controller ports.  I can't tell you where or when (it was long ago), but I do know it's a mod that's able to be done.
I modded both my Twin Famicom and original Famicom with NES controller ports using NES extension cables, and it's actually a much better method than getting a controller adapter since some NES and Famicom games are actually incompatible with expansion port controllers. You can even mod the system in such a way that you can have both microphone and light gun support, which is also something I did.

But he clearly stated that he doesn't want to modify the hardware, and I don't blame him.  I wouldn't want to cut up a Fami Twin either :/

Get AV Famicom (the one that looks like the new model US NES.

It has better Video output than the original Famicom, it works with Famicom Disk System.

Only draw back is that it misses the microphone one the second controller, which affects 1 or 2 games.

Not sure does it support the added sounds channels of the original Famicom, but I think it does.

Yup ;)

I would prefer not to modify the system. I REALLY like it so i would rather not. I have looked up some tutorials for modding controller ports to it but i elected against it. Unfortunately i decided against it after i purchased 4 nes controller extensions (two for the mod, two because i just wanted them). :P

Do you by chance have a list or know which games are incompatible with the expansion port?

I go back and forth on whether or not I want to mod certain systems.  When it's all said and done, I just can't bring my self to mod any sytstem which I have owned since it was new.  NES, SNES ect.  I jusst can't bring myself to cut those systems up.

Now a used system on the other hand doesn't bother me.  So cutting up my Master System for the FM sound mod wasn't a problem.  Same with adding s-video to a Genesis.
Maybe, just once, someone will call me "sir" without adding, "you're making a scene."

I dislike moding systems, so I compromised.  PC for emulation and real systems for when I want the classic feel, and a matrix video switcher so I can route anything to any TV.
