Bear78:
Hey guys I got a new Canon Pixma MG5520 multifunction device and I was looking to get some recommendations on the scanner settings.  Below is what I currently have setup.

And here is a scan with these settings

One thing I have noticed is my file size has jumped up a lot from my old scanner to this new one.  Usually scans were around 4.5MB but these new ones are around 15MB... not sure if its because of the "high" quality setting or what.  Not a huge deal but a smaller size will let me save space on my box account.

What do you guys think?  Do I need to make an adjustment anywhere?  Anyone got a similar device that can recommend scan settings?
Arseen:
Yep probably the high setting is the cause for big file size.

Settings seem OK.
Only thing is that image adjustment.
If the setting just corrects colors and lighting then leave it on.
But if it automaticly straightens the image take it off IMMEADLY.

Also leave some extra space around the image so the whole image is there with 100% certainty..
Bear78:
So if I make that "high" down to standard do you think it would really affect the image all that much?

I believe the Auto just corrects the colors and lighting.  I took it off and the preview looked washed out.

I'll have to mess around with getting it to scan the whole image... it seems like it's stopping when it hits the "end" of the image.  I took off the auto cropping setting but it still is doing this.

how did the scan look?

Probably not.

OK then leave it on.

Try preview scanning and then manually adjusting the scan area.

For a PS2 scan pretty good, PS1 and PS2 stuff always leaves moire effect.
Using unsharp mask might help, but then details might get lost...

I have the 5420.  Why do you have to go and one-up me like that? ;)

You should be happy with that.  I haven't had any complaints about my scans. 8)  I hope that people would speak up if my scans could be better.
