I'll answer two out of your 3 questions. Does DS games will be compatible with NEW 3DS console? Yes. Does old 3DS games will be compatible with New 3DS console? YES.

Second analog stick, 2 more shoulder buttons, more powerful and faster processor, 3D effect tracks your head position with the camera and adjusts itself.

And I too am quite interested about this handheld (the XL version).

I myself am pretty excited about the new one. I do a lot of gaming on the 3DS and look forward to the superior hardware. Plus I really dig the new famicom style buttons and the second "analog stick" or whatever that nub is.
