i used to work for lamestop and this is how it goes down for New games

We would open 1 game for a display copy the disk and manual goes into a sleeve then goes with the rest of the new games we would sale all copys that were not open till we got to that copy. Yes sometimes we would reseal them before sold them to peoples or let them know why it was open and put round tape as a seal. Yeah i know its bad selling a open game as NEW.

GameStop does let their workers "rent games" yes also NEW open games. So think of that next time you buy a open new game

I worked for LameStop from 2004 - 2006 before i quit

I actually don't have a problem with this since it helps prevent theft which helps lower costs which helps lower prices.  But whenever they sell any of those games that have been opened, they need to at least knock a few dollars off the price because it it's been opened, it is no longer brand new.  Even if it's never been played before.

disc is in good shape.

--- End quote ---

Its not a blue ray disc. Its a proprietary disc made by Panasonic for Nintendo (It can hold up to 25gb per disc). While it looks similar and has a similar scratch resistant surface it is a different type disc.

I'm sure they went this way for anti-piracy measures considering how easy it was to modify the original wii.

--- End quote ---

This was the same method employed by sega with the Dreamcast (useless proprietary drive), and we all know how effective that was at preventing piracy...

--- Quote from: sheep2001 on September 24, 2014, 12:15:03 PM ---Nintendo did the same with the wii.  DVD drive but no DVD playback.  I think they want to keep their consoles as gaming systems, not media centers.  Most nintendo gamers already have some means of playing their movies/CDs etc, or are too young to care.  I don't believe there are many 'gamers' that will only have a wiiu.

--- End quote ---

Iirc, wasn't the Wii's big anti-piracy measure that it played the discs backwards/in the wrong direction?  Again, really effective :-\
