I made a small pickup today for a Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance in two colors I didn't have, plus a few games.  When I got home I noticed that everything smells like cigarette smoke.  I didn't notice when I bought everything because we made the trade outside.  I'm pretty disappointed, and I'm thinking about calling the guy back.

Before I do, I was just wondering if anyone has had that problem before.  If so, were you able to do anything to get the smell out?
Maybe, just once, someone will call me "sir" without adding, "you're making a scene."

I once saw a video that recommended wrapping smoke-damaged games and such in dryer sheets. Apparently it takes the smell away after a little while.

Honestly, when you're buying something used, stuff like that should just always be assumed. That's my opinion anyway.

When I buy used stuff, it usually has a smokey or a musty smell, or rarely some kinda stank that I don't know how to describe.

I agree and I'm not angry with the seller.  I just wouldn't have bought it if I had noticed.  The only reason I might call him back is because, based on our conversation, the guy would probably give me my money back.

I'll try the dryer sheets as I would rather keep everything.

Throw the Game Boy and some dryer sheets in a zip lock bag, and leave it sealed for a few days.

Give it all a gentle wipe down with ISO or window cleaner first, then ziplock with dryer sheets.

If your still not happy with it after the above tips, pm me before you sell it back to him, what all is there and how much you paid the guy. That way you get your money back, and I get some gameboy stuff :P

What I really don't like is when you open a package and you almost inhale the last puff of the sender's cigarette !

Seriously, doesn't the smell just go away by itself if you leave the items in the fresh air for a few weeks?

Living in New England this is a very common problem with used games. More often than not carts smell like smoke and are discolored from nicotine stains.

A good wipe down with Goo Gone always gets rid of the smell and most scuff marks. Just avoid getting a bunch on the labels, a light wipe is all it takes.

I pick up a ton of games with cigarrette smell, i usually  just leave them out in the garage a couple days  then i take them apart and wipe everything with alcohol. That,s just something you have to put up with buying used games..

What I've done in the past is wrap the handheld with dryer sheets and then wrap them up with cellophane wrap for a while.

I'd contact the seller so f the smell does not get removed you might be able to get a refund in a week or so it takes to attempt to remove it.

I usually just clean them up real good and let them sit out in the open for a while.  I had read somewhere that plastic and rubber absorbs the smells that surround them.  The smell disappears over time.  I never had good luck with the dryer sheets.
