Sturdy disc cases (for mailing)?

Seems like regular DVD cases are a bit too likely to get smashed in the mail. I have an ex-Blockbuster rental DVD case that is very sturdy - there are extra rectangular prisms of plastic supporting the case so you can't crush it as easily.

Or if you mail out a lot of games / whatever in DVD cases, maybe you have insight on how often the case is smashed in the mail. GameCube cases were pretty sturdy, for example. I assume whatever Netflix uses doesn't get smashed, but they also get special treatment by USPS.

I used to work at Blockbuster and the extra sturdiness is due to the way the cases were locked with a piece of plastic that slipped through the bottom and had to be unlocked with a magnetic key. For some reason the Gamecube cases were made the same way and the locks fit right in them. As far as Netflix, it's been many years since I had a DVD account with them but I seam to remeber them having a cardboard sleeve to put the disc in with the envelope.

It's been more than a year since I used the DVD mailing service of Netflix, but when I received the discs in the mail, there was no protection other than the sleeve over the disc which was inside an paper envelope.  The entire package was only as sturdy as the disc itself. 

But to answer your question, I would think a padded envelope would be more than enough to ship a DVD case.  In the unlikely scenario where it gets broken, a DVD case is easily replaceable.  If we are talking about some high dollar item where you want the original case, than I would recommend shipping it in a small box with enough padding around all sides to protect it.  But really, I think that's overkill.

I think DVD cases are durable enough for the mail.  Now Sega CD/Saturn jewel case long boxes on the other hand....................
