Tv for old school question
kingjohn3:
my main factor is how it looks. 4:3 on my 42" hdtv looks decent enough except for the grey bars, but i'm sure it would look better on one of the older TV's. I did happen to find a set of S-Video Monster cables for SNES/N64/Gamecube so that definitely helps

Keep in mind that S-video may not look the same on an HDTV. I have s-video for my SNES, N64, Saturn, Dreamcast, Jaguar and PS1 and all of them look pretty crappy on my HDTV compared to my Trinitron (which is what I play them on).

I'm getting a 32" Trinitron for $40 and this will be my old school system set up. I'd like a bigger screen but this is all I can find at the moment so I'll be using the S-Video on it rather than the hdtv

That sounds like a great setup to me. I'm sort of in the same boat. My 27" TV is a little small, but I got a good deal on it and it works fine for now. If I ever find a good deal on a larger TV (without sacrificing picture quality) I'll replace it.
It would be nice to upgrade to something with RGB, but I would have to replace a lot of equipment other than my TV. I just don't see it in the near future for me.

From what ive read, no matter how good the tv is if there is a screen much bigger than 27-32 then its gonna look stretched. Has anyone else heard/read this?
