Does anyone have an opinion on Sony Trinitron WEGA TV's? I found a 36" for $100. Is that a good deal and does anyone have any experience with them? Thanks

They're good TVs and that's a good price for the size.  Some light guns wont work depending on the model however.  If you have more than one old system remember the Nes and SMS use completely different type of light guns.

Old WEGAs are nice TVs, but if they're flat-screen sets, light guns aren't going to work on them. Great picture, though.

Someone told me that Mitsubishis are good. I have a 42" Toshiba 1080i that looks decent enough but apparently these old systems, NES through PS1 look better on old sets. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I have a 27" Sony Trinitron, but it's not a WEGA.  It's a flat screen (NOT flat panel, NOT rear projection)  I paid $20 for mine on Craigslist.  If you are patient, you can get a good deal on one of these because most people just want to get rid of them because they are big and heavy.

For the record, even though it's a flat screen, I can confirm that the following light guns work on my TV:
  NES Zapper
  SNES Justifier
  Sega Master System Light Phaser
  Sega Genesis Justifier
Sega Saturn / Sony PlayStation Nyko Cobra Light Gun

***EDIT***
R.O.B. also works on my TV.  Not a light gun, but it's worth mentioning since he isn't compatible with all TVs.

Maybe, just once, someone will call me "sir" without adding, "you're making a scene."

my main factor is how it looks. 4:3 on my 42" hdtv looks decent enough except for the grey bars, but i'm sure it would look better on one of the older TV's. I did happen to find a set of S-Video Monster cables for SNES/N64/Gamecube so that definitely helps

Keep in mind that S-video may not look the same on an HDTV.  I have s-video for my SNES, N64, Saturn, Dreamcast, Jaguar and PS1 and all of them look pretty crappy on my HDTV compared to my Trinitron (which is what I play them on).

I'm getting a 32" Trinitron for $40 and this will be my old school system set up. I'd like a bigger screen but this is all I can find at the moment so I'll be using the S-Video on it rather than the hdtv

That sounds like a great setup to me.  I'm sort of in the same boat.  My 27" TV is a little small, but I got a good deal on it and it works fine for now.  If I ever find a good deal on a larger TV (without sacrificing picture quality) I'll replace it.

It would be nice to upgrade to something with RGB, but I would have to replace a lot of equipment other than my TV.  I just don't see it in the near future for me.

From what ive read, no matter how good the tv is if there is a screen much bigger than 27-32 then its gonna look stretched. Has anyone else heard/read this?

I haven't heard that.  From my experience, it just gets difficult finding TVs much bigger than 32" without going to a rear projection which often doesn't look very good, especially if they are older (and they will be older).

I think if I found a 32" for a good deal I would get it and be done looking as long at it met the following requirments:
Compatible with all of my light guns (several listed earlier)
  Compatible with R.O.B.
  Good picture quality
Overall good condition (not beat up)
Sony (almost all of my A/V equipment is Sony, and I prefer to keep it the same)
  Under $40

If the TV has a "digital comb filter" or a line scaler, that's going to make light guns not work. Should have clarified that. That's been my experience at least.

My main concern is rich colors & crisp detail. Prolly wont play light gun games. Im hoping the S-Video helps it look better. I never had that cable when i was a kid.
