Does anyone know of any good, unknown games on the PS3? i have bought and played many PS3 games before with hit and miss results. I want to get a collection of good games and not be stuck with bad games not worth my time, so does anyone know of any hidden gems?

Depends on what genre you like.

Some more or less hidden gems are

Catherine - BUT only play this if you can live with insanely difficult puzzle games!!!!!!
Agarest - Especially Agarest 2.
Nier
Asuras Wrath
Resonance of Fate
Guided Fate Paradox
Hyperdimension Neptunia - the best is Victory.
Afro Samurai
Deadly Premonition
Both Earth Defense Force games
El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron - has some very distinct art style but the gameplay is a love or hate thing.
Folklore!!!!!
Cursed Crusade
Knights Contract
Shadows of the Damned
Killer is Dead
XCOM - I can only recommend everyone playing this game! It's a true blast if you loved turn based RTS back in the days! Sadly they streamlined it a bit too much so you can't play forever or at least extremly long like in the old X-Com games.
2 + 3 = 23

It really depends on what genres you like. Everything tiktektak posted is solid, as well as the following:

3D Dot Game Heroes - If you like 2D Zelda games, you'll like this.
Binary Domain - Underrated TPS.
Dragon's Crown - 2D Brawler RPG.
Katamari Forever - Probably the best Katamari game since the PS2 ones.
Persona 4: Arena - Solid anime-styled 2D fighting game.
Sengoku Basara: Samurai Heroes - Dynasty Warriors, but with Devil May Cry combat and more personality.
Spec Ops: The Line - Underrated TPS with an excellent story.
Tales of Symphonia Chronicles - Re-release of one of the best JRPGs on the Gamecube.
Valkyria Chronicles - Not really unknown, but an excellent game.
Vanquish - The best TPS on the console, hands down.
Way of the Samurai 3/4 - Essentially a chose-your-own-adventure book. 34 endings and a great combat system.
Yakuza 3/4 - A modern JRPG with 3D brawling instead of traditional combat.

I'm not sure what your requirements for "unknown" are, but this should get you started. There are plenty of weird Japanese titles on the PS3, so there are a lot of hidden gems.

(As a side note: If you've never played an Earth Defense Force game, buy EDF 2025 and fix that)

I always suggest Spec ops: The Line.

It's like a cross between Bioshock and Rainbow Six. It's a great overlooked game.
My DS Cover Requests: Anno 1701, A Witch's Tale, A Witch's Wish, Black Sigil, Dynasty Warriors, Flower Sun and Rain, Mage Knight Destiny's Soldier, n+, Time Ace

I'm really big on hidden gems for this generation, there's so many great games that no one has even heard of. I prefer 360 over PS3 so I have them for the 360, but most are multiplatform so it shouldn't be a problem. Anyway here's the list:

007 Blood Stone
Ace Combat 6
Ace Combat Assault Horizons
Alpha Protocol
Asura's Wrath
Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts
Battlestations: Midway
Battlestations: Pacific
Binary Domain
Bourne Conspiracy
Castlevania Lords of the Shadows
Castlevania LoS 2
Child of Eden
Chrome Hounds
Dante's Inferno
Earth Defense Force 2017
Earth Defense Force 2025
Eat Lead
El Shaddai
Enslaved
Eternal Sonata
Just Cause
Just Cause 2
Killer is Dead
Kingdom's of Amalur
Mini Ninjas
Nier
Shadows of the Damned
Singularity
Spec Ops: The Line
Syndicate
Tenchu Z
Terraria
The Darkness
The Darkness II
The Saboteur
Vanquish
Viking: Battle for Asgard
Witcher 2

I don't know if it's a hidden gem or not, but I thought that the Goldeneye remake was awesome and I never felt it got that much attention.
Maybe, just once, someone will call me "sir" without adding, "you're making a scene."

If you like imports, Sengoku Basara 3: Utage and EX Troopers are great fun.

SB3U is an enhanced version of Sengoku Basara: Samurai Heroes in America - almost all the NPCs from SB:SH are made playable in SB3U, plus a new and extremely badass character is added who fights with one hand behind his back, tossing gunpower on his opponents and using his sword to cause sparks, effortlessly slaying enemies.

EX Troopers is basically Lost Planet anime style. It's really pretty to look at and fun as well.

Got both of these on my stay in Japan for really cheap. EX Troopers I'm pretty sure cost me less than $10 while SB3U may have cost me somewhere around $20.

Aton7, your list contains Ace  Combat Assault Horizon and Castlevania Lords of Shadow 2. Two of the worst games of their respective series.

Assault Horizon nearly single handedly destroyed the Ace Combat franchise. And LoS2 is one of the most disappointing games of last year. You've got some good stuff on that list, but those are a couple of titles that I'd straight up avoid.

I loved it on the dreamcast and I loved it even more on the PS3.  Rented it from gamefly to try it out, got the platinum trophy, now I just need to buy it so I can add it to my collection.

No More Heroes (An HD remake of a Wii game) was also pretty fun.  Although, if you enjoyed it, you'd need a Wii to play the sequel lol

Say whaaaaaaat!? Had no idea this existed (like you said! ;)). I just ebay'd my very first PS3 game last week, looks I'll be doing that again soon!

A couple exclusive suggestions from me that hasn't been mentioned yet:

- Puppeteer (just found out about this one myself)
- The Witch and the Hundred Knight

In case anyone here is interested....I just saw that Under Defeat HD was on sale on the US Playstation Store for $3.00!

I would prefer a physical copy, but for 3 bucks, I couldn't pass it up and eventually I'll get a physical copy.
