Hey guys, I'm following a bid on a game Gear but the seller has just edited the Listing on the condition and it says now that it doesn't have sound.

Is it hard to repair this, or someone knows what can cause the sound not to work?

I'm asking because if it's not hard to repair this I will buy it.

Remember that I don't know to much of electronics.

Also, changing lcd to led and capacitor, is it hard for a person without knowledge of electronics to do this?

I only have  5 hours to decide if I go  ;D

Thanks

Usually it's capacitors, but no sound might mean broken speaker or loose cable too.

Changing capacitor should not be hard as the soldering points are quite big, right?

If really cheap go for it.

This.

The vast majority of the time, it's due to crap capacitors. You can get a kit from Console 5 to fix it for fairly cheap. As for a new LCD, I've not seen anyone put a modern LCD in a Game Gear.

Its pretty easy to change the capacitors, the kit like ^ said is nice and complete, and there are quite a few how-to threads that have good pictures of what to do.  I use a simple soldering iron from parts store, like 5 bucks and have repaired many game gears / game boys/ etc. always good to have a little solder experience.  For instance, I bought a genesis off ebay a few weeks ago. Power led was not working, i toke case apart and the led solder had broken. 3 seconds later, and good as new.

Sorry, I didn't reply in time.

I've not seen anywhere about anyone changing out the LCDs. LED is just a form of lighting an LCD. I would love if someone took the time to do that. As for price, I wouldn't pay more than about $10-$15 for one with dead sound.

Oh, here's the link to Console 5 for the capacitors. You need there are two kits. Get the one for the revision you end up buying.

Sorry, I missed on replying to this as well.  But everyone was right.  If it isn't working properly, you shouldn't pay too much for it.  I bought one without a working screen with about six games for $20 a while back.  Replacing the capacitors fixed the screen, but now it's giving me more trouble.  I bought another GG this week and paid a little more for it, but it works perfectly.
Maybe, just once, someone will call me "sir" without adding, "you're making a scene."

I just bought one in perfect shape (no scratches/chinks) that had all the capacitors just replaced for $20 and thought that was pretty decent deal.  There are good deals out there on them, just got to weed out the people wanting 50 bucks for one with no sound or something lol

Well, I just got done watching the videos and if I were going to do this it would be the first. The other three are kind of doing it half assed. You can see the that the backlighting is uneven, focused on the center, just like with the old CFL backlighting that came in it. It's just brighter. In the last one he complained that the LEDs weren't bright enough. Well, in the DS backlight that is using OLEDs which are much brighter. The lighting is even. And it's the right way to do it.

However, there is one issue. While installing a DS backlight panel will increase the battery life and give you better, more even, backlighting. It doesn't solve the larger issue. Which is the fact that you're still using an outdated LCD screen with horrible response time. So you end up with a well lit blurry mess. It's really like putting a band aid on a severed arm. That being said, if I were to do this, I would certainly do what he did in the first video.

You could switch the LCD with a modern one but you are going to have some sacrifices. Since the GG screen is a custom resolution the image won't take up the full screen on a modern LCD. Its great to do that if you plan on playing master system games on your game gear but its pretty bad on normal game gear games.

The screen on the game gear would look like what shows up on this tv
