Like others have said, Capcom and SNK fighters are a must!  If that's your thing, then the DC is like the Saturn: part 2.  Good SHMUPS too (also like the Saturn).  Some cool quirky titles.  Seaman (or as my co-workerd and I like to call it, "Puddle Buddy"), the fishing games with the fishing controller are a blast, Sonic Adventure 1 & 2 (the only 2 Sonic games which I've ever enjoyed), pretty much any of the Naomi ports (i.e. Crazy Taxi).

It's a system which every collector should really consider and it's still relatively cheap to collect for.

I'm not hugely into fighters to be honest.  I seem to lack the commitment to master each one and they tend to get very repetitive to me.  I did have lots of fun with Soul Calibur II back in the day though, so maybe I will get a fighter or two for the Dreamcast.

I guess I'll pick it up for a low investment of $20 and see what happens :)

Your original post did seem kind of odd without the link.  I thought maybe you were just referring to "this site" as like a term for this site that you know of.  It didn't seem extremely helpful lol.

So I got my Dreamcast!  He also had another one for $10 but it was just the bare console.  He said he had already sold all his games which is kind of a bummer.  Tested it out and unless the lens is bad or something it appears to work great!  It didn't know the date though...is there like a battery or something?  I'm doubting it matters much of course.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.  It looks like my Dreamcast library will probably be very limited when I start collecting for it but it's nice to have another console to join its buddies nonetheless.

From the research I did All Dreamcasts can play backups.  The issue usually arises from a bad burn, weak burner, or bad Iso/cdi image.

Not exactly true, I have a dreamcast that does not play any type of cd-r.  The same burned disc runs perfectly on the other 3 dreamcasts I have so I know it's not a bad burn or bad image.  It can play retail games perfect but besides that and parts, that's all the one system is good for lol  Granted, those dreamcasts are rare but they do exist.

As for the date, the system itself does have an internal battery, if you leave the system plugged in, that'd be enough to keep the date saved.  If you unplug it however, you'll probably have to set the date again...or just skip putting in the right date since it doesn't matter much for most of the games you'll be playing.

Okay, cool.  I probably won't keep it hooked up but we will see.

Does anyone know if Sonic Adventure (1 and/or 2) are superior on the Dreamcast or would I be better off getting the GameCube ports?  It seems like the GCN ports may have some additions?

Looking at "best of" lists for titles I can kind of get a feeling on part of the reason the Dreamcast failed.  It doesn't have any big AAA titles or strong IPs to make you want to go with Sega.  It may have had more before it failed and stuff got ported, but there aren't a lot of must have games that pop out at me.

Edit:
The DC doesn't require modification to play "backups"*, so I suggest burning copies of anything that sounds interesting and then buying legit copies of what you end up liking ;)

*I've heard people say that later models won't play CD-Rs, but I have personally yet to experience this ???

Thanks for the suggestion Wiggy!  I think I found a good site I just need to grab some CD-Rs.  This will help me streamline my collection and save me from buying games I'll never play twice.  As for others suggesting emulation; I'm sort of a purist and don't like going the emulation route too much.  In addition it tends to be a hassle and 9 times out of 10 the emulation is inferior to the original.
