Biohazard/Resident Evil HD remaster
Mel:
Has anyone purchased Resident Evil this week?
Megatron:
I have. I am loving it so far. The only gripe I have is the new control scheme, while far superior to the "tank controls", can get you in trouble when the camera angle changes. You basically have to let go of the thumbstick at the camera change and push the NEW direction you want to go. Not a game breaker, but can be frustrating, especially with the faster enemies.
The graphics look really nicer. Not true next gen, but for an HD port of a 2002 title, it is damn good. Pretty solid frame rate, too.

You say it's not a "game breaker," but that sounds like it would be for me.
Megatron:
You can switch it back to the regular controls. This isn't RE4 - no over the shoulder camera. It has clunky, sometimes awkward controls, which is admittedly part of the charm. I would have preferred a movable camera, but this is just an HD update of a 2002 Gamecube game, not one built from the ground up.
Let me put it like this: if you liked the original 1996 game or the 2002 remake, you will like this.
If you hated those, it probably won't do much for you.
If you have never played the original Resident Evil, and are willing to try an OLD GAME that has a learning curve with controls (similar to a lot of PS1/N64 titles including Silent Hill, Syphon Filter, and Ocarina of Time) then give it a shot. For $20 (and will probably go on sale at some point too) it is worth it for a fan of the RE series, or old school survival horror in general.
Edit: As for the controls, think of Metal Gear Solid - you're running down and holding the V (down) button. The screen changes. now the direction you're going is up. If you continue to hold the V (down) button as you were, you're fine, even though youre character is now running up. but if you release, you have to switch directions. This was very common in fixed camera games back in the day.
But the one beneficial button change - LT/L2 aims, RT/R2 fires. Much better than R1 aim + X on the original PS1.
Mel:
What chances of Resident Evil getting a physical release now with it having high sale numbers for the digital release?
