all the good/decent ones that i can find with high quality covers on are either subscription based or require you to buy credits to download the covers

The only one I've ever used is http://www.rixgrafix.com/ .

Though he/they mostly focus on movie collections. But is was a huge space saver for me to collect all my Star Trek TV and Movie DVDs into 8-disc cases, rather than the huge unwieldy boxes some of them came in.

I have the same problem. I find a site that looks to have a bunch of good covers, press the download button and it takes me to a registeration screen. >:(
Im going to have to make all my own movie covers. Still debating wether to use multi disc dvd cases or poly cases to save space.
