New NES cases (work in progress)
pringlesman:
What are the exact dimensions for these things. I've been wanting to make a series of covers for my NES games.
KalessinDB:
Got my sample just a few hours ago -- a couple days before when the tracking number predicted it!! ;D ;D
The Good: These cases, oh god these cases.
-- They fit Tengen, Color Dream, AVE, AGCI, Wisdom Tree, Camerica/Codemasters (I was particularly worried about these with the little bump on the back of the cartridge for the NTSC/PAL switch), and SEI cartridges perfectly. Sorry, I don't have Panesian carts to try them with, or any of the "semi-official" multicarts (Action 52, Caltron/Myriad 6-in-1).
-- They click closed fantastically, and require (in my opinion) just the right amount of force to open so that you're not afraid of them opening randomly on the shelf, but they're still easy to open even with 1 hand. I have to admit I was kinda skeptical just looking at these, afraid they'd shift slightly from use and not click closed properly, but it's a really good quality construction as far as I can tell. I suppose we'll have to wait a few years to find out what time brings.
-- The tabs that hold the game in are very nice, they keep the games secure if you try to open the case with 1 hand, but allow them to come out easily at the same time. I did notice a few of my unlicensed games "sticking" at the bottom half of the shell, so that I had to pull the tabs open again, but I'm going to blame that more on crappy production quality of the 20 years old unlicensed game than I am on the tabs, you know? ;)
-- The color is spot on with the Gameboy (and by extension, official DS) cases, the plastic on top is nice quality (and securely fastened at the ends)
The Bad:
-- It was requested to see if they can fit a SNES Game Genie: They cannot, at least not an unmodified SNES Game Genie: it's physically thicker than the case. If you were to take the front hinged part off of it (like you have to do to store them in a UGC), I imagine they could be modified to fit it, but being that I only have one of these beautiful cases I'm unwilling to try hacking into it.
-- Uhh... I don't have my full order in my hands yet? I dunno, I'm struggling here, the thing's damned near perfect in my eyes.
In short: Very very excited Shadowfox. You have delivered an amazing product once again, and I will continue to throw money at you for all of the customized cases you make. Now shenske, UPLOAD DEM COVERS!!
TyrannicalFascist:
I'm very interested to see those final dimensions so I can start converting my Nintendo Fusion covers and create a new template. ;D

And on the topic of "Benefiting almost no one but me"...
I think these could fit Sega STV carts with minor modification. Again, I have no desire to cut up the sample but I know that STV carts fit into the thicker EA Sports Genesis cases with some modification, but not normal Genesis cases. The NES cases, with their extra millimeter or two, come in at thicker than standard Genesis cases but still a hair thinner than EA cases.
But I'm looking at my Virtua Fighter Kids cart sitting here on top of the mounting area and looking at what I would need to clip, and I'm preeeeeetty sure they would fit in there with only minor modification.
You know... for the like, one other guy on this forum that collects arcade stuff too.
tomm1313:
Does it fit dust covers?
if not with a minor mod maybe?
