If you bought this new in store, as you say, hold on to it as this is rare.

The biggest stand out for me is that you see Pikachu's feet.  On the original trilogy (r/b/y) they cut the lower half of he Pokemon off at the waist or knees.  No feet.
It also says the color.  That didn't happen until later generations. ...edit - you CAN see Blastoise's foot.  But my point remains for Pikachu.   ;D

Also that label screams poor quality image.  Are you in the US?  Because all of my info is based on US material.  So I can't speak for anywhere else, but the Pokemon labels have always looked sharp and crisp.  Yours looks like it was prnted on a 1999 inkjet...no offense

The black E came around 1999 or 2000 or so, before that they were the outlines, white ratings.  I know, because I remember being pissed that Resident Evil 3 (I think) and Final Fantasy IX didn't match the others in the series

shenske:

Also the sideways text font on the gray back is Arial. Iirc the retail  font used is Helvetica.
Also there is a slight metallic look to the gray on the side normally and this is a flat gray in yours.

The Nintendo logo isn't legible (the ink looks to have bled a bit) and it has a completely different "Version" font. It was already mentioned before that during this generation the Version was not stated on the cart.

No two ways around it ... its a reprinted label. Sorry dude  8)

Do you think Nintendo would cut a chunk out of the Pokemon logo? Your cart has a portion of apostrophe cut off.
You may believe that it is a genuine label but unfortunately, with all due respect, it is not  :'(
