He will make one case with the same dimension and different interior for nes, SNES, n64?
^^ Correct.  ;)

And Yes, think of the NES case and SEGA case as "Root" cases. Both are starting points for other cases. Both are their own beasts.

Shadowfox, have you thought about any departures from the way a UGC is designed when making the NES and derivative cases?

In particular, the one thing I really don't like about UGCs is the thin hard edges of plastic you have to grab or push open to get the cases open. And sometimes the corners are the first to chip off. It just feels cheap to me.

What if you could make the edges of the case, and especially the area where you open it, more rounded and perhaps more like the DS cases/your GB cases. In fact, somewhat more like the outside of an 8-disc DVD or Blu Ray case. Something a lot more pleasant to open.

Just a thought.

If it's the same dimensions as the UGC I would really like the above suggestion.  Just curious as if there is a mock up of this yet.

I'm torn. NES cases would be dandy. Sega repros would free me from having to hunt down boxed genesis games.

My vote is: Whatever you do, PLEASE make the sleeve on your cases sealed more firmly than the UGCs. Every time I have a sleeve break at the edge and become a useless flappy thing it's so disheartening.

EDIT: I'm also a little confused, you currently sell NES cart cases on your site. The new NES cases would be exact UGC dimensions or something?

I'd say SEGA cases. Though I guess I do have a bit of a bias towards Seymor Onion, seeing how I did the art for him and all.  ;D

Still . . .
His projected date was Fall, and after all the R&D for your NES cases (Judging by the GB cases time) it would probaly stick the release date around there.
And SEGA cases would have less R&D, because you are basically remaking something that already exists. With some improvements.
Plus, there are less variants to SEGA games and manuals (To my knowledge). Not as many unofficial games.
And you would save many sport games from loosing there homes.  :D
And they would work for Famicom games as well.

That's not too difficult to fix. ;D

Wiggy came up with a good method that works well for me.  It won't look original, but it will still be usefull.
Maybe, just once, someone will call me "sir" without adding, "you're making a scene."

I found an odd one while out hunting today.
This case had Brutal: Paws Of Fury in it.

When I opened the case, I got a bit of a surprise. First the case is normal Genesis size and thickness.
It is a tad too narrow for 32X cartridges.

It holds Master system games snugly:

Electronic Arts games fit perfectly:

And of course Genesis games:

Is this the type of case that you are planning on making for the Genesis clamshell cases?
If so, I'd love to be able to fit my 32X games in one.

Pretty cool idea, Shadowfox?

I checked and there is no ACCLAIM, EA or even SEGA markings on this case. Have you or anyone else seen there before?

Yeah, those are fairly common.  I have a bunch of them.  Not sure if they say a brand or not, they won't say EA - as those were JUST the squares to my knowledge, although they did come in standard thickness instead of the super thick cases.
The only problem with those is that EA cases don't fit tightly.  They rattle a lot and feel loose.
But either way, when collecting empty Genesis cases to case loose games, it's nice to have the option.

With a little tweaking, that could be a great companion to the Genesis case Shadowfox is making, potentially able to hold Master System, EA and 32X cartridges all in one. I could see it also being a good base for a simple mod to fit Sonic & Knuckles. It would probably benefit from a short wall on the left to keep the manuals from sliding around though.

I wonder if it would be possible to make a 32X game fit, but still be snug enough to hold a Master System game in place as well?

By the way, what are all the unusually-shaped cartridges for Genesis that might need to be taken into account? Off the top of my head I know that there's also the Codemasters carts, the Virtua Racing cart and of course the Game Genie. I'm sure Shadowfox would like to know all the possible variants, as that kind of thing helped on his GB cases.

Hmmm... I DO like this.  :) I'll probably make the 100% SEGA Clamshell and then come back and do this guy (With the slight thickness adjustment) And I'll rack my brain to figure out how to get the EA carts to fit snugly as well.

Well what do you know, it looks like there might be a precedent for this already:

If you could take the best of the double-wide/8-disc DVD case and the UGC and combine them for your NES, SNES and N64 cases, you'll have something really special. Like the shape and quality of DVD or DS cases with the dimensions of the UGC. Perfection. ;)

I have been thinking about your request Tyrannical, it's one of those things I have to really stop and think about.

I agree that the 8-dice DVD case's rounded / finished edges are nice... I think my main question is: Do people want these cases to look like UGCs? If not, I can totally make the cases the same dimension as the UGCs but do exactly as you are suggesting. (SO if you placed these new cases on the shelf with the older UGCs the case size and spines would appear the same size. (I gotta take some photos of an existing case I have as one of the many samples the factory gave me in the last shipment that I think would work.... style wise) Photos coming soon...

No it does not have to look like UGC.
It has to be durable, hold the carts well without modifying, fit all manuals, and yet not waste too much space.

100% Agree ... As long as it holds everything well and secure, if they look a little different so be it :) all you can see (at least on my shelf) is the spine, so that's all that matters :)
