It's a shame that you can't split the difference and do smaller batches of both.....

Either one that you choose to do first, I am grateful for. It's cool that someone with the skill and resources can actually recognizing the need for these case in the first place; and for that I thank you!!!

Yeah honestly, either way I'm buying them.  It's just a question of ~25-50 (I'd only be replacing my cardboard box Genesis games and MAYBE the ones I have in UGCs) vs ~200 (I have no NES games in cases yet) for me.

And to all the people saying there are "Soooo many choices out there for NES"... what?  There's 2: UGCs (which require modifying) and Bitbox (which are vacuum-formed and certain people don't like, Stone Age themselves have acknowledged that).  There's also 2 options for Sega games:  UGCs (which require zero modification for Sega games) and gutting cheap sports games.  Actually there's 3 options for Sega games if you include the tiny hardbox ones you find on eBay, but I'm personally not counting those.

If there's more NES case choices, please enlighten me, because I truly don't know of any others.

The reason we are saying there are less choices for NEW genesis cases are because UGC's do not fit in with your regular genesis collection.  And as a collector, i hate making one cart naked for the sake of another.  Sports games need some loving too. ;D (and in my opinion, the NHL games on the megadrive are some of the best games released on it, period.)

Also, although you dont have to modify a UGC for megadrive games, they are horribly loose in there - i dont consider it a good option for my MD/SMS games at all.

Plus, being in Europe it's difficult to get hold of UGC's - Whilst it was pricey to get the shadowfox GB cases shipped - it wasn't AS pricey as getting UGC's.

So for me, there aren't actually any viable options for getting hold of the 200+ sega cases i need, other than someone making them and selling them.

Yes there is another choice.
Buy the old rental cases and put a slipcover on it like I do. Looks a lot better IMO.

I still say Sega cases need to be made just because I don't want to put them in UGC's.

This is why you and I sheep need to figure out an importing deal. ;) So people in France have a source to get these cases.... without being killed by the shipping cost.

I really don't know why nobody has marketed a case that is empty of cart holders,  that a cart holder can clip into.  1 mould for the case, then sell the cart holders separately that clip in.

Truly universal, and interchangeable..

Could do a range of different sized cases, that the different cart holders can clip into. Also, without using a cart holder the case can be used for peripherals, promo items, manuals, etc.

But, at this stage, I am not trying to throw more into the mix.  I just want sega clamshells! 😜

Bit like I suggested

I've been thinking the way to hold the cart the best and came up with two ideas:

1: To make case that would hold any cart (except nes as it has to orient different way) would be to put manual clip like hooks to the right side as well which would hook in the circuit opening of the cart.

OR

2: Make case that would have empty right side that would have groove around the edges where you could slide sort of like plate that would be made for each cart type separate that way you would have perfect fit for each cart.

 ;)

this is a good idea, one or two empty cases and universal holders that taps inside, like it

This IS a good idea. The reason I'm not pursuing it myself is because the mould to build the insert is only $1,000-odd less than the cost of a one piece mould. Even with different sleeves each sleeve would be a mould. I am essentially doing the same thing.... Let me explain myself:

If I move forward with the NES mould that mould will be 2/3 complete for SNES/SFC or N64 or Jaguar or Famicom and so on. Meaning that my cost for the re-creation of an existing mould will be cut in half. (Because I am able to use the existing NES mould as my base mould and really only changing the right hand side.)

Same thing goes with the SEGA Clamshell; I will be able to keep this mould and re-build a universal SEGA case off of it for half the price as the first one.

Hence the cross road I am at now. Both these mould are base moulds and both are close to $10,000. BUT! Once they are complete, any other "spin-off" moulds off of these will be closer to $5,000. Meaning if the selling volume stays constant, I will be able to bust out 2 new moulds the same time it takes me to bust out one now. (Which, one at a time doesn't seem too long, I think it was pretty fast for me to get from the  Gameboy mould to this fork in the road of which mould to strike up next!)

POLL STATS AS OF 7/9/2014 9:00AM (PST)

Total of 65 Votes

SEGA Clamshells: 52.3%
NES Cases: 47.7%

Total Cases "called" for

SEGA Clamshells
LOW: 1544
HIGH: 4345

NES Cases
LOW: 1853
HIGH: 3726

(Now obviously the HIGH numbers don't mean anything because I do not believe for 1 second all ya'll if you clicked 100-500 cases you ALL are going to get 500 cases.)

So SEGA has the most votes yet NES has the highest LOW case numbers.
HA-HA

I'm going to let this poll run one more day.  ;)

problem for me is that i can make sega games fit in UGC's while NES dont fit unless you cut them.

and then you have to worry about them scratching your games.

I have 100 NES games sitting in shoe boxes.

Call me. Maybe you (we) can do both. I need more turnkey products in my lineup, and maybe we can swing both of them at the same time.  I can also talk to my overseas contacts and see what they can offer. I JUST got brand new micro faceplates into production and it was waaaaay affordable.

That is exactly where I am at, I'll need around 50-60 nes game cases.

I didn't even see the poll. I voted for NES. I would need to buy at least 100 right off the bat with another 100-200 for the games on my wanted list. While if you did Genesis clamshells I would only need about 30 to upgrade some that I have that aren't in the best of shape. I suppose I would buy more for future games that needed new cases. Either way, I'd be buying cases so I doesn't really matter.  ;)

I'm in the same boat ... not nearly that many games, as I would only need around 60 NES cases to replace all my UGCs that I've cut up. But personally NES cases are higher priority for me as I don't own but maybe 10 old Genesis games, and still have all of them in the box.

POLL STATS AS OF 7/10/2014 9:00AM (PST)

Total of 132 Votes!

SEGA Clamshells: 36.4%
NES Cases: 63.6%

Total Cases "called" for

SEGA Clamshells
LOW: 1939
HIGH: 5765

NES Cases
LOW: 4287
HIGH: 9431

(Again, I don't think the HIGH numbers really mean anything )

So today NES has the popular vote AND has the LOW + HIGH numbers.

I'm going to let this poll run for a few more hours.
