I wouldn't be interested in Clamshells that hold EA carts. Those ones can be found all over the place. I'm mostly interested in as close to sega oem as possible.

Good point! I have some EA cases that hold the massive ones one was and sideways, it'll hold regular sized ones.

Also, let's not forget that SMS and MD/Genesis games are the same, 32X games are not, they are a bit wider.

The the SEGA clam shell cases, they would be an extremely close (If not identical) match to the Genesis cases. I would be able to use this mould as a springboard to create a second SEGA case that would house all the other cart types later. And yes, they will have the hanging clips.  ;)

Also, as a small update: The factory agreed last night to get started on the next mould with a much smaller deposit so I now have the power to get one of these moulds started on as soon as I figure out which one to strike first. (BTW at this time it is exactly 50-50%  :D oie)

So these would be hard, solid plastic like UGCs and the original Genesis cases, right?  I only ask because I am not really a fan of the bit box soft plastic/vhs style clamshell.  Nothing against them, they're pretty well constructed.  I just prefer a hard boxy style case.

I really don't know why nobody has marketed a case that is empty of cart holders,  that a cart holder can clip into.  1 mould for the case, then sell the cart holders separately that clip in.

Truly universal, and interchangeable..

Could do a range of different sized cases, that the different cart holders can clip into. Also, without using a cart holder the case can be used for peripherals, promo items, manuals, etc.

But, at this stage, I am not trying to throw more into the mix.  I just want sega clamshells! 😜

Bit like I suggested

I've been thinking the way to hold the cart the best and came up with two ideas:

1: To make case that would hold any cart (except nes as it has to orient different way) would be to put manual clip like hooks to the right side as well which would hook in the circuit opening of the cart.

OR

2: Make case that would have empty right side that would have groove around the edges where you could slide sort of like plate that would be made for each cart type separate that way you would have perfect fit for each cart.

 ;)

Well, not to steal your thunder, but I tried to give the idea to seymore onion  back in the Middle Ages when he was designing a case. Lol

Proof of that not found, besides my post was pre-historic. :P

Anyways, like we said:
Some sort of holdersless case would be nice, with additional holders sold for rarer games that are not popular enough to warrant their own case.

Sega. There's no other option available to compete and you'd have the repro guys buying bulk from you as well. Getting the word out is key.

Couldn't have said it better. I've mentioned both of these points in the past and it's solid reassurance they will do well. How could they not do well when your the first and only one selling them? There's also way more factors involved and various reasons why these would be more sought after by a wider range then an updated UGC. That in itself should be the deciding factor.

If the idea here is to determine which case is going to bring in funds quicker to put towards the next mold in line, then Sega is the way to go IMO.

I'd be in for a 100+ cases just to start when they become available.

To be fair, the UGC is an option, so you can't say that there are no competitors.  Don't get me wrong, a replica of the original Sega case would be a thousand times better than a UGC, but the UGC option is still there.  That is why I stress that it is important to keep the price competitive if not cheaper than the UGC.  Otherwise you get into the same situation at the Bit Boxes.  If the price ends up being somewhere around 50% to 100% more than a UGC, than they might not move as quickly and we all are thinking.

I'm not saying Sega cases shouldn't be next, but I want to make sure Shadowfox thinks about all possible scenarios.
Maybe, just once, someone will call me "sir" without adding, "you're making a scene."

Yeah, both will happen... just what one first? ;) Basically, MY cost per cases for either the SEGA or the UGC like cases are MORE than $0.50ea. ...haha. I'm able to get that lower.... but only if I buy literally 100k cases at a time.   :o

So I was thinking the $1.00 area. I think once I get like 4-5 cases out there and volume goes up, I should be able to get below the $1.00 mark.  :)

I said something like that a while back too, and got shot down by many members of the forum.  Make it fit the biggest\most common game, and sell cheap plastic to hold the others.

After you make replacement Sega CD\Saturn cases!
