agree on both, as i don't have any UGC's (i didn't buy them because they don't hold manuals) if they look a little bit different, that's no problem for me, just add the option of holding manuals and durable  ;), and you'll have a client  ;D

They don't have to look exactly the same.  However, for me, it is important that you can't tell the difference between a UGC and the new case when they are sitting next to each other on a shelf.  Otherwise, I will stick with the UGC, not because I like them better, but because I'm sort of commited due to the number I have (especially of the modified NES cases).  I don't want to replace what I have.  I just want to use the new cases going forward.

That's why I loved the GB/GBC/GBA cases so much.  When displayed on a shelf, you can't tell the difference. ;D
Maybe, just once, someone will call me "sir" without adding, "you're making a scene."

If he's making it the same dimensions as a UGC, then the only really noticeable difference would be the color, unless he makes some clear cases to match UGCs as an option. Otherwise I imagine the difference would be pretty minimal when lined up on a shelf. The rounded edges probably wouldn't stand out on your shelf.

Shadowfox, my vote is obviously go for it. I think the UGC has had its day, but it can be done better with a more premium quality to the design. And you've already proven you can do that.

What I'd be looking for in NES, and later SNES and N64 cases would be:
-Black or dark gray cases like DVD or DS
-Rounded and comfortable to open
-Holds manuals in place
-Holds most official and variant carts in place securely, but easy to pull out
-Can be easily modified to hold any tall or unlicensed cartridges that don't fit otherwise (like Super Game Boy)

So basically your GB cases at a UGC size.  :P

Have we talked about color for the NES cases?  I know there have been discussions about the color of the Sega cases (black obviously), but I can't recall any discussions on the color of the new NES case.

I think there was.

Colors were black, clear, blue and red in the beginning, followed more obscure colors maybe later.

I might remember wrong though.

I most like dark gray / black myself and am going with it 100% certainty.

But clear is cool too for inner art, and red is Nintendo color so that OKish too.

I think I'm going to start with 2 colors; Clear and Dark Grey. ;)

I originally thought black but I agree that the dark grey really looks good.

Dark gray / black is what i originally had in mind when I was envisioning your NES cases.

As it was suggested before; creating the case on the same dimensions as UGCs BUT structurally similar to DVD cases would be amazing. Having the case go the edge (instead of how UGCs have the lip) should solve the manual height problem. Probably still need to be a tad thicker for the manual thickness though.

If you were somehow able to make the NES case look like a really big oblong DS/GB case that would be perfection!

Adding to the choir:

No it doesn't have to look like the UGCs at all, far as I'm concerned.  I too would actually kinda-prefer them to be like the DS/GB cases but bigger.  But I have 0 of my NES games cased yet, so whatever you choose would be fine by me.  As long as I can get art for them, I'm happy.

On the flip side, I might be willing to replace all of my NES cases if I found someone who was willing to buy my current collection of modified UGC cases at my original cost.  In other words, a buyer who isn't interested in Shadowfox's cases, but doesn't want to take the time to modify their own cases.  So that is something I will explore when we get closer to an actual production case.

But I still think it's important that the same size covers fit into the new cases as that would be a lot of new covers to create.

i don't realy know which one to choose, because some time i think i like them to be Dark grey but some time i think of the clear one because of the inlay. but those colors are the ones to go first for shure.

 :)

So I just shot off the e-mail to the factory that I would like to change the exterior of the NES cases to resemble the Gameboy cases with the smooth, rounded edges and open/closing mechanism.  ;)

I'll let yall know once I get a reply...
