New pin connector nes console question
Pepe_el_mago:
Hi guys, just one question. Some guy changed the pin connector of my nes so it could read games first try. Now i dont need to put down the game, i just insert the cartridge and do a little pressure so the game "connects" to the pin, and there is no need to put down the game, it workd fine. My question is: is this dangerous for my nes ganes? Seeing i have to make some pressure to get the game to connect, and when i remove it, it is the same deal.
I will really appreciate your oppinions.
Thank you

Just to make sure I understand you, you are concerned that the new pin connectors are too tight and you don't want to damage your game or your system?
If this is the case, I wouldn't worry too much about it. New connectors are very tight because they haven't been used. I (personally) have used 4 or 5 different new pin connectors in the past, all with tight grips and never once have I ruined a cartridge or a system.
As for not pushing the game down, this is not necessary, just an extra step with the NES. It doesn't NEED to be pushed down, but it does secure the game in place. If using a game genie, for instance, you cant push the game down and everything still runs fine.

Some people will probably balk at this, but I just leave my Game Genie in at all times. It will bend the pins a little more than a normal game, but I figure as long as I'm not removing it, constantly, it shouldn't matter. I modified the Game Genie so that the lid closes when I don't have a game inserted. It only takes a small amount of care to remove the game without pulling the Game Genie out. I would be willing to bet that I have a 95% success rate for starting games in the first try, maybe better. Plus, if you dont' want to use the Game Genie, you can just skip past the code screen.
To answer your question, I've heard that if you get a new pin connector that allows you to play games without pushing them down, you should play them that way. It should be less wear and tear on the pin connector. However, those aftermarket pin connectors never seem to last very long no matter how you take care of them.

It can cause more wear and tear on the pins. Hear that crunching noise? Most of that is metal on metal, so somethings being scraped away, at least ever so slightly. Leaving the game genie in in this cause actually would be a very good idea. It will also cause the pins to losen up a bit more and be closer to spec.
The problem with these 72 pin connectors is there's so many of them all made slightly differently, none seem to be to the original specs. Most are made a bit tighter to ensure a connection.

I didnt read anything you posted but, do not get a new pin connector. Boil, clean and use a needle to reset the old pins to the correct location.
My nes would not read before and now I dont even have to push the carts down and the carts read everytime 100%.
Also dont forget to use eraser and brasso each and every cart once :)
