Removing sticky stuff (not from cartridges)

So I recently got the Mass Effect 3 N7 Edition in the mail (today actually). It came with everything and is in pretty good condition (as advertised), but what the seller didn't mention was that he had masking tape over the case to keep anything from falling out. Fine and dandy, but how does one go about getting tape/sticker grime off of a cardboard slipcase or a steelbook? I've tried rubbing alcohol but it didn't seem to work (this is what I use to get sticker grime off of cartridges and DVD cases and it works).

Any suggestions? If I can get the tape grime off of the case then the thing would be in fine condition.

A dab of Goo Gone on a paper towel, then rub it down with a wet paper towel followed by a dry paper towel works for me!

Depending on the glue of the sticker, goo gone or bestine, and warm it with a hair drier too if the glue hasn't turned solid (Like 40 year old stickers on ataris do)

I, too use goo gone. But if its one of the really old stickers that gamestop uses, I just swap out the case cause its not worth 25 minutes of my day removing a sticker off a game case.

Hair driers work wonders if, like he says, it hasn't turned solid.

It took a long time and a lot of elbow grease, but I managed to get about 99% of it off with Simple Green since that's what I had on hand. Didn't damage the cardboard at all and left absolutely no residue. Only downside now is that I had to scratch off some of the residue from the steelbook and the one they made for Mass Effect 3 scratched waaaaayyyy too easily so there are a few marks on the spine.
