I just bought Pikmin 3 for the Wii U through the Nintendo eshop. I have a basic Wii U console with only 8 GB, so I didn't have enough room on it to make the download. So I asked myself...What will I do? I immediately thought of putting it on a USB flash drive...I plugged in the flash drive and sure enough I downloaded it on there, so whenever I plug the flash drive in..it'll act as a game disc...but I wanna put it in my collection. So I came up with a neat idea for you eshop games..make a 3ds cover version for it and that differ your eshop from the normal disc. I made my Pikmin 3 case cover to fit a 3ds case..I think it's neat...what do you guys think? If you all like it...I'll upload the cover to here..but lemme know first if you would like it.

I think that is an awesome idea, That is one of the main reasons why i stay away from digital downloads. I prefer having a physical copy and something nice to look at on my shelf. Good Job

I considered making empty cases for my virtual console games (less then a dozen total) just to have something on my shelf to represent the game, but still havn't decided if I like that or not.  At least you have some sort of physical copy to store in the case.  Overall I'm not a big fan of digital download games.
Maybe, just once, someone will call me "sir" without adding, "you're making a scene."

I've never been a fan of digital downloads as well. But they have came in handy for me when my disk drive broke in my PS3.

So are you putting the digital download game with the rest of your Wii U games? Being a 3ds case it might drive me nuts not having that uniformity. But that's just me.

Case looks great, though!

I love this idea! I have wanted to make VC cases that match the Wii U cases for the NES and SNES games that I have downloaded. It would be awesome for all of them to have there own space on the shelf and just buy a bunch of cheap thumb drives

So sorry if this has been covered elsewhere, but I see people using empty 3DS cases to house various things lately...where are you guys getting empty 3DS cases?  The ones I see online are cheap knockoffs and look nothing like the official cases.  The only place I have found them is the nintendo store, and they are almost always out of stock and like $1 each.

The Nintendo site has a 5 pack for 4 dollars. they aren't out of stock, just backordered. getting 25 cases for 20 bucks is a pretty good deal to me, especially since they are the official cases

I'm happy you like them...any requests just lemme know...and yes I buy my cases from the nintendo store...I never have a problem with it, but if they don't have much..just give it a few days to a week to re stock...they're normally pretty good with that stuff. :P

Thanks for the link!  They're still more than I'd like (given the amount that I have to buy and have to add shipping on top of that) but it's definitely a good start.

Curious how the game play runs from the Flash drive.

Is there longer load times since its stored on a flash drive?

any lag that you've noticed?

and any pros/cons you see about using a flash drive for game storage.

not really...the flash drive acts as a normal game disc...plug it in and it'll automatically put show pikmin 3 (or any game) on the wii u home screen in the next available slot. No real cons to it, honestly.

I wanted to do something like this for wiiware/virtual console games, but they're too small to justify using a whole SD card for each one. I'm tempted to do this for my favorite steam games now :P
