Completely different games.  FF XII is "Final Fantasy Twelve", FF X-2 is "Final Fantasy X-2", the first direct followup to a numbered Final Fantasy game.  It's a direct sequel to FFX, Final Fantasy Ten.

Haven't played XII personally, only played a little X-2.  X-2's alright, but it's really fanservice-y, nowhere near as good as X was IMO

Haven't played it personally, my best friend played it for a while and seemed to enjoy it.  No more ATB or random battles though, you see all your enemies on the world map and it's a real-time battle.  Was originally described as "FF XI the non-mmo version" so if you played XI you at least have an idea of what you're getting into.

I'd say that they are both great games.

X-2 has my favourite battle system of any FF game.

XII also has a great battle system the rewards good planning and intelligence.

X-2 can be beaten quickly but has lots of gameplay if you go for 100%

XII will take forever even if you don't do 100% of it.  XII is also quite challenging.

I haven't played X-2 and I've heard people who like it and people who think it's a dreadful game so I can't offer any opinion there. From what I've played of XII, the combat is a bit different from the other Final Fantasy games, but didn't seem bad at all. The other people on the forum can correct me if I'm wrong but I've heard that XII is tied into the game Vagrant Story as well.

Yep, there are a few things that the games share in common. Albeit Retroactively in Vagrant Story's case. They both take place in the world of Ivalice, which is also the world that Final Fantasy Tactics takes place in.

I thought the game was an absolute blast, but not a fast play by any means. The connections people make to FFXI are very apt.

I loved FF12 (FFXII) though for the longest time it took a lot of gripe from gamers, though I think people are starting to look more favorably on it in recent years.
Great combat system (IMO) that if one really wanted to delve into it could come up with some really awesome AI components (but again you didn't have to use them if you didn't want to)

FF XII is about a hundred times better then FF X-2. That's the difference.
