In US yes, Here in Europe we can use US SNES's RGB output. ;D
Arseen:
Or is there RGB -> VGA adapter as most HDTVs still have VGA input?

If you are unwilling to mod and/or use adapters/upscalers and just want a single plug to go from the SNES to the TV, then yes.  Note: Not all original form factor SNESes will have the separate sound module, but the way you said "original release" I assume you know that.  There's multiple board revisions in the original SNES, and it's fairly hotly contested whether the original-original SNESes with the separate sound module provide "better" video, or whether the 1CHIP boards (the last ones in the original form factor, same internal chips as the Mini) do.

If you want to use adapters/upscalers, then as Arseen said you can always do RGB SCART to VGA adapter (I'm pretty sure they exist, although I know more TVs in the US are starting to ditch VGA -- then again, faaar more TVs have ditched s-video than have ditched VGA) or a powered RGB SCART to Component/YPbPr adapter, or you can go *REALLY* crazy and buy an X-RGB Framemeister (this is a $500 purchase but will give you the absolute best video possible from all of your retro systems).

If you want to mod, you also have the option of modding the SNES for Component/YPbPr (and, for that matter, DAC to bump up the sound quality).

I have one of those SCART to HDMI scalers. The Scart side really **** the bed in terms of quality. The image has several artifacts which really sucks. It does work well as an HDCP stripper, and none of the artifacts are there going from HDMI to HDMI.

If you really wana use RGB, just get a small monitor from a 16 bit computer like the Amiga or ST (I have found that CGA or EGA monitors for PCs tend to be a little wonky with analog RGB), and adapt a scart plug into it. If the monitor is common enough (like the Commodore 1084), there are ready made solutions. Its cheaper than a PVM, and they are small so you can store them away when not in use.

I use scart to HDMI and it looks beautiful.  I have no issues.
