Printing full size NES boxes! here is my results/conclusions
Sammickk:
I'm trying to achieve results like that with an inkjet since i want to to print hundreds of these for my entire collection. Since i can't find a photo Laser printer (wide format) under a grand in price, I'm stuck with inkjet. I do have a friend who works at a printing store with a digital printing press and offered to print me some, but when I told him i want hundreds...lol you can guess what he said. What I've noticed is matte paper works with laser printing because the process ends up a little shiny more like a real box. But in photo paper and inkjet i learned this is not the case, and in order to get a smooth paper ... gloss is pretty much the only option As pearl and luster paper is no where near as sturdy (in inkjet photopaper) and has the little dimples, or texture.
I think i've found the sweet spot or at least I'm close now, I have some new paper samples coming that is lighter weight than my last, 290gsm vs 380gsm. The sheen may be a little more glossy than original boxes, but it looks great, and its good enough for me. I can make the 380 gsm work through a double scoring technique I found after several trial and error attempts, Its just to hard to do and takes to long but it ends up more sturdy than an original box lol.
In conclusion, i figure if i can get a 16.5 mil thick 380gsm weight paper to take a fold good, then 290 should be allot easier.
always looking for helpfull hints and knowledge
and as always, I'll keep you updated!
