We need a new 2D Metroid game that isn't for a portable system.

Have you checked these hacks:

Super Metroid Redesign (excelent bit hard totally redone game, available alaso in cart form)
Super Metroid Eris (never played, should be available in cart form)
Super Metroid Impossible (never played, should be available in cart form) HYPER HARD IF NOT IMPOSSIBLE TO PLAY ON CART AS IT WAS DESIGNED FOR SAVE STATE PLAY!!!
Super Metroid Super Zero Missions (never played, should be available in cart form)

There might be others

No, I only recently learned about most of those.  While those interest me, in my original comment above, I was thinking about a Metroid game in a similar fasion to New Super Mario Bros. or Donkey Kong Country Returns.  Same type of gameplay as the original, with updated graphics, moves and levels.
Maybe, just once, someone will call me "sir" without adding, "you're making a scene."

It's funny, I never thought I would say it, but I think I'm about 10 times more likey to get a Wii U before either of the other two competitors.  The list of games I would buy is quite a bit longer than the other two.  In fact, Metal Gear is the only thing that currently makes me want to look at a PS4.  There is nothing on the One for me just yet.

I fear that NSMBU style would make them aim for easier game (like they did with NSMBU), But true 2D Metroid game witrh slightly updated graphics could be fun as lomg as they keep the toughness.

True, that does seem to be the theme with games these days:  If it's too hard, it's not fun. :-[

I still say that Super Metroid is deserving of a remake (as long as it stays 2D).

All you Prime non-believers need to bask in the glory of Retro Studios, our true saviors.

Splatoon was the biggest surprise of the show for me. Loved getting an in depth look at it. I feel it could be Nintendo's Team Fortress if they played it correctly. Just seems like so much fun!

Meh.  I don't mind that those games exist.  I'm just not that into them.

I'd love to see a new Metroid in either 2D or 3D. I'm certainly more partial to 2D though. I suddenly feel like I should sit down and play through the primes again. It's been a while.

As to the question in the initial post - yes, I'd like to see Nintendo do better with the Wii U this year. It's a shame how it just sort of.... fell flat.

Nintendo has some great looking things coming up, things I want, absolutely. But did they win E3? That I'm not sure I'd agree with, mainly because I enjoy (or find things to enjoy in) most all games, so I tend to enjoy new things just as much as old things, and in sheer volume of cool new things they are second to Sony.

But second best is way better than I was expecting, honestly. So maybe they did win - they got people to look at them as a contender again, and that was what they needed more than anything else.

Oh, and Hyrule Warriors? Anyone want to bet on Hyrule Warriors Empires and Hyrule Warriors Xtreme Legends? :P

I'll take that bet.  :D

Tecmo-Koei has never done a XL or Empires expansion on their licensed Musou games like Fist of the North Star, Gundam, or One Piece; only Dynasty and Samurai Warriors. So I am 100% certain we will not see it with Hyrule Warriors.

So no hope for a Zelda/Gundam crossover either then?  ;)

Yeah, I cant see Nintendo letting them go overboard either and beating the dead horse with re-releases/expansions.

I like what I see for Nintendo, a lot of stuff I would want.
I may never use the Amiibo figures, but ALL THE WANT. I'm trying to get out of figure collecting, but they pull me back in. I always wanted Smash figures.
The new smash itself looks good, Was not all to interested until I played Brawl with some friends on my B-Day.
I like DW, but my friend Matt LOVES both Zelda and DW, he almost murdered me in happiness when I told him it was a thing.
New Kirby, meh, would have liked a normal game than a Dream Coarse sequel. I like the clay style.
Yoshi, Meh, New Yoshi, 2 Player liiks alright but may be able to mess with each other too much.
XCX-I liked the first, have not seen the trailer yet.
Mario Maker - Looks fun, want.

I'm a happier Wii U owner now.

I think Mario Maker has tons of potential, and looks pretty fun already. Hopefully down the road they can keep adding content to it, like new backgrounds, characters, and maybe like a Zelda Maker expansion?!
