Hi guys ....

KaiserWAVE has uploaded some PAL covers to the site. the main issue with these is that they are formatted for those crazy double width DC cases so the spines are a waste of time for standard CD cases.

So? ....... I have created a slimline spine based upon the color of PAL cases etc and have created a back for Virtua Fighter 3 TB. Is it worth pursuing this for the rest? ...

Valeman,
As per usual, That looks great!

Are we going to have the Double CD spines & Standard CD spines available for download?
or is it better for the PAL people to convert to the standard CD cases?

Kaiserwave uploaded the same for the PS1 games, and I was wondering if we need to make covers for both? or just standard?
Can you even buy replacement cases to fit the wide CD cases?

If we are doing both, I will need the dimensions for the thick case covers.

(There does not even appear to be a reason that they were made with the thick spine cases...)

Great work TheValeman. I think it's definitely worth pursuing this. I haven't found any place neither online nor "real world" where you could buy replacement cases for DC so I really think coverting them to CD cases would the way to go. Saves a lot of trouble for everybody (except the one converting them, which means YOU :) )

Same situation with the PS1. You can't buy replacement cases for PS1 games. I don't even think PS1 games came in a unified case. I have all my games in their original case and there are at least 4 different case designs. So I guess it would be the best option to convert them to CD cases aswell.

I have found a slick case that is half the height of a normal DVD case, pretty much the same design and dimensions as a NintendoDS case just with a holder for up to 2 CDs, but they're somewhat hard to find. So I'd definitely vote for CD cases. Any other PAL people here with a different oppinion?

The main problem I face is that as the PAL cases have a more than double width spine the publishers tended to put fancy graphics on the side. Converting to a standard case means I dont have much option other than to replace most with text as the small size renders the name unreadable. Saying that lots of PAL cases had text only anyway .... but purists may bemoan the changes.

I know that U.S. Dreamcast & PS1 cases are same size as regular CD cases. The only difference is that standard CD case uses a grey insert that holds the CD. The PS1 and Dreamcast are totally clear. (This allows you to see the insert artwork)

I do not know the case dimensions of the PAL cases, so it would be hard for me to create covers/inserts for them.
(I am thinking of the people who have the PAL game & PAL case and just want the original artwork.)

Then I guess the purists can try their luck on converting them themselves :) Honestly, we could use the double width spines and no one can use them (not even the purists ;) ) or we could convert them to normal CD spines and change the little graphics on the spines to text. That way they would look like the US/JAP games which again would look good all lined up on a shelf. And as you said, a lot of games had text anyway.

The PAL dimensions for PS1 are:

frontcover: 123mm x 125mm (slightly bigger than a normal CD case insert)
backcover: 163mm x 122mm (with spine)
spines(s): 13mm x 122mm

PAL dimensions for DC:

frontcover: 120mm x 120mm
backcover: 151mm x 119mm (with spine)
spine: 15mm x 119mm
