Game Gear Capacitor Replacement Success!!!

So I finally got around to replacing the capacitors in the Game Gear that I bought off of Craigslist.  Based on my research, I replaced the two that were most often the cause of the black screen and sure enough, everything was working properly.  I decided to go ahead and replace the rest anyway since I had it open and everything seemed pretty easy.  It only took about an hour and each capacitor was easier than the last.  Eventually you start getting into a rhythm and each one gets a little easier.  You really do get a lot of satisfaction from a small project which goes without a hitch.

Now that the capacitors are replaced, it’s on to my TV out mod.  I’ll let you know how that goes when it’s done.

I need to do this soon, I'm 0 for 3 with working game gears now.  But I still have so much stuff to unpack and clean at this house, it'll be a while.  I'm also changing batteries in all nes carts I sell right now, adding a holder vs just changing them. Figured that would be a good fisher-price my first soldering project.

I get that.  With my one month old son, my free time is limited.  I have a whole list of soldering projects that I want to do. The Game Gear just happened to be top priority.  The TV out mod will probably be next.  Then I'm adding the FM sound mod to my Master System.  Eventually, I'm going to add s-video out mods to most of my Sega systems.  So much to do, so little time.

Glad it worked out.

I tried to do a cap replacement once before,  with out much luck.  Still have two other gears laying around and really need to give it another go around.   Now that my soldering skills have improved.

I've had my capacitors for years, but I just don't have the time to learn how to solder properly. I will eventually, but in the meantime I've sent off my GG to get the capacitors replaced. $10 ain't bad for a dude I met in another forum.

Let's just hope I don't get scammed.

$10 isn't bad.  Does that include shipping both ways?  I hope that deal works out.

The Game Gear came with a first party A/C adapter and five games in original cases.  So, I figure that, for what I paid, I basicaly got the GG for free.  Because it was so cheap, there was no risk for me and if I screwed it up, no big deal.
