I need to buy a new printer, and I was wondering if anyone here could recommend a good general-purpose printer that will work well for printing covers. I'm not opposed to buying a scanner/copier hybrid and the price range is up for debate.

Any particular models I should consider?

I've had good luck with my Cannon MG5420.  The covers look good and I've received compliments on my scans.  It's also nice because it's wireless which means any device in my house with a wireless internet connection can print to it.
Maybe, just once, someone will call me "sir" without adding, "you're making a scene."

Make a search for "printer" (with those rabbit ears) on the search engine and you will find thread that already have talk about that.

But for me cannon is the best

For printing no such big deal, but for scanning even cheapest Canon seems to do the Moire-removal (aka descreen or derasterization) the best.

Epson Artisan 50 in my opinion. The have best print heads in the business. Let me say though its only worth it if you get a CIS system. I print a lot of full page documents on 4 star epson matte paper. Once under a picture frame or behind a plastic sleeve it will blow you away. Plus this thing lets me print directly onto inkjet printable cd/dvd's...always a plus.. My two cents! Cheers!

Since I'm not seeing anything more detailed than "a Canon one" on either this thread or the other ones on the forum, I assume no one has any strong opinions. I guess this will work: http://www.amazon.com/Canon-MX922-Wireless-Printer-Scanner/dp/B00AVWKUJS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1399839436&sr=8-1&keywords=Canon+Printer

A sticky might help, but I only bothered making this thread because all of the other threads were so lacking in details and useful information. I wasn't sure if "a Canon one" was a canned answer, or the most detailed answer anyone was willing to give.

That looks quite good.

These topics are lacking detail as there is no right answer, thus i answered:

Mine is Canon MP190 that was 40-50 bucks and it has very good moire removal which is one of the main features of good scanning.

If you want to just print, may I suggest a laser printer? The printing cost is much less than on an inkjet system.

I know it doesn't fit the needs of everyone, but I would look into getting one of the printers that qualifies for HP's Instant Ink program.  I've spent 10 dollars on the subscription program and I've printed two color cartridges worth of stuff since I bought the printer.   Great savings on ink.

I'd love to get a good quality color laser printer, but I'm pretty sure they're double the price of a comparable inkjet.

This looks like the best one on Amazon, but I think the price speaks for itself  :P

I got a Samsung Laser Printer, color. And it has network printing and all that. Only paid $100 for it new.

My printer cost me nothing since it was a Christmas present. ;D

But I've more than made up for that buying ink and mine takes 5 different ink cartridges.  I save a little bit buying the XL cartridges.  They cost 50% more but last more than twice as long.  If you can front the extra cash, it's more than worth it.

Avoid the generic ink at all cost.
