Hey Guys,

Just curious to see what you guys do to find out the value of a game? Am i the only one that uses pricecharting.com ? and if so what are other alternatives out there. My pet peeve is that people on craigslist expect retail store prices and get pissed off when you off them something like 25% of their asking price. Thanks.

pricecharting's great, just check the history first, and if any auctions are wrong on it, click the button to remove them.  The biggest issue with it is it can't take shipping into account.

This crazy thing called eBay.

It tells you what an item is actually worth, not what just what people value it at.

Well, actually... Price Charting just tracks items sold on ebay... and amazon and half...

@Hatereternal

So yes, Price Charting is really the only way to gauge a games value as it tracks sales from the past few years and shows trending prices beyond ebay.

Cool thanks guys. I'll stick with price charting and take off 15% since that's what ebay+paypal usually end up taking.

My only gripe with that is that it doesn't track PAL prices all that well, especially for PS1 games.

I usually base the value of games for how much they sell on eBay, cause thats the one website I use most when buying retro games.

but it's hard to see how much they SELL for vs listed for. That's where pricecharting is nice.

No it's not. There's a button right on the left side that can be selected to only view completed listings. There's another option to view only sold listings too.

i also believe eBay is good for determining values.  However, it's important to see what they are SELLING for, not what they are ASKING for.

I see guys at fea markets with games.  When you aks them how much, they wip their phone out and look it up on eBay (which pisses me off).  Than they try to show me something with a Buy Now price.  I tell them to show me something that has SOLD for that price.
Maybe, just once, someone will call me "sir" without adding, "you're making a scene."

Price charting also has a mobile app for android (not sure about IOS).  Really comes in handy when in the wild and unsure whether the seller is price gauging - which happens a lot in DC.

What I like best is that it's an updated average price.  Not sure how often it updates but it seems weekly.  Prices based on sell points on eBay and Amazon I believe

And game gavel\half.com too. I hate buying from half.com though, people normally ship media mail, and games can not be shipped then, so the post office may hold your package.

You lost me there.  Why would the post office hold your package?  (no, not that package, the package that was sent in the mail..... ;))

I WISH that was a service they offered.  They always get offended when I put my package on the scale.  Not MY fault I'm proud of it, you would be too.

Anyways media mail is for educational use only.  https://www.usps.com/ship/media-mail.htm

If the shipper sends something via media mail and they think it's video games, they open and check.  If they're right, you have to pay to upgrade it to first class mail. And if your name is "Videogames4Less", they're looking.  I think they may open most of them anyways, I've had a lot of them held for payment.
