So we were watching my wife’s 12 year old cousin this weekend.  She plays some video games at her house (Wii, DS and 360).  Mostly Mario and dance related games.  So I thought I would show her some gaming history and we played all sorts of retro games from Genesis, Nintendo and Super Nintendo.

Here are some of her quotes that just killed me.

Me:  I’m going to show you the first Mario Bros game on the ORIGINAL Nintendo.
Her:  Original Nintendo?  You mean the DS?
Me:  Oh boy…..

Later, when she is playing Super Mario Bros, she misses the first Mushroom and tries to go back and get it.
Me:  You can’t go backwards in this game.  You can only go right.
Her:  What kind of old technology is this?

Later, playing the same game, she keeps jumping on top of a question block over and over again.  I then realize she is trying to push down to do a “ground pound.”
Me:  That move doesn’t work in this game.  That move wasn’t created until Super Mario World 2 on the Super Nintendo.
Her:  There’s a SUPER Nintendo???  How many Nintendo’s are there???

It was a fun weekend.

Maybe, just once, someone will call me "sir" without adding, "you're making a scene."

I was playing the original Super Mario Brothers with my brother in law, and we were switching with my 11 year old niece and we asked her if she liked this game over New Super Mario Brothers Wii. She said she likes NSMBW, but thinks the original is the better game. :P so all hope isn't lost.

Also, I was in a game store and there were these two kids (10-12 years old?) "Gameboy? What's that?" "I think it's something like my 3DS."

And then my girlfriend's little brother (8years old) loves pokemon, but doesn't know what a Bulbasaur is.

My cousin thought the Genesis was a Nintendo console because 'Sonic is a Mario character!'

Those Mario & Sonic Olympics games are probably where he got that idea.

I remember booting up Super Monkey Ball on my Gamecube for the first time.

I kinda felt dirty seeing a Sega logo on a Nintendo product, not gonna lie.
Attempting a complete NTSC-U NES set.  Sell me your games!
Click for What I've Got.  253/677 licensed games, 39/95(??) unlicensed
